Hi friends i am asking the question where did you start your race build ?? what did you think the best first step in the process was. i am asking because i have built street cars but not a more dedicated strip vl and would like to get your opinions and feed back on what was a good plan and not so good ? And should make for some sweet convo with peoples stories Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

All i can say is doesnt matter where you start all that matters is do it right once as the poor man pays twice.

Finding a good shell/roller Driveline out and overhauled Shell resprayed if necessary Suspension/chassis work, tubs etc Cage and strip out interior Driveline back in and tune That's how I'd go about it Not very specific but its a start

If I was doing it, I'd probably buy someone else's unfinished project that is already tubbed/caged/painted with nothing else. Shells like that seem to come up every so often and of course it won't be as good as doing it all yourself etc but let's be honest most major projects never get finished and if all the work is done right you are only saving yourself money and time. This will leave you thousands more to drop into the engine/driveline. Just my 2 cents.

There are always a few chassis popping up with the suspension and tubbing work done, I'd buy something like that, depending on what I'm building, especially if it's run some numbers in the past. Then it's just modifying to suit the engine you're using and going from there... it's a good head start though, providing it's done by a workshop or someone who knows what they're doing.

Same as any car really. Start with as much fab work as possible before anything is painted etc. cage/exhaust/piping etc etc

Yeah that's what I did. Didn't have a gearbox in just had an empty block And head to do all the fab stuff before anything was painted.

Best place to start is how much money have you got, how fast do you want to go, what class do you want to race in? Everything else will resolve around these three things.
