Hey guys, I know its probably been asked 1000 times but I couldn't find anything in the search. I'm looking at a vy or vz calais v6. I've heard terrible things about the VZ alloytec engine and thought I should come ask here first! So what is the problem? How do you fix it? Can it be prevented? Is it a big enough problem to throw you off buying a vz and just settling for a vy series 2? Thanks fellas! -Luke

They stretch timing chains, Not much you can do about it as far as preventing it, fixing = new timing chains For less maintenance hassle stick to a VY

If you do get one though make sure you service it as they do sludge up really bad. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yep 3 chains vz weren't too bad as far as the stretching went but find one with good service history as if its missed one or two services I will pretty much guarantee you it will be sludged up, and once they are if you ever have to do any major repairs its not really worth it cos once u distub the baked sludge just breaks up and can block up all sorts of stuff, it's just pot luck some last and some don't, ---------- Post added 09-09-13 at 23:21 ---------- Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

90% of the chain issues will now have come out with time, and the problem should not recur once new chains have been fitted. there was a known issue with two batches of chains in vz and ve. This assumes you have good service history and as a personal preference i would avoid castrol oils. i have seen a few well serviced cars look like the above pic that have only ever run castrol oils

Thanks for the advise guys, Still tosing up about the whole thing and am actually considering getting a toyota surf or something as they have a good name, and then i'll get back into the commys when I have the money and i am off my p's. But we will see, whatever I end up buying I'll probs have 1000 questions posted on here about it anyways! Thanks again!

Ecotec simplicity would be better than a high tech, high power DOHC pain in the ass, holden can jam that one where it fits.
