Hey there, im planning on buying a mazda rx-8 in 3-5 months.
Thing is with rotary engines they need abit more care and maintenance than the piston engines, now before you go on about how **** rotarys are etc, No.
only problem with rotary's are their owner's.
But i do need you'r advice in some fields, considering i dont know too much.. im that scared to buy 1 second hand because i dont know if the person before me was a dud and didnt maintain the car etc.
Is it too much of a risk to spend 13-20k on a used mazda rx-8?
If i was to buy one, would it just be the smarter thing to buy a 2007+ year mazda as i heard 2003-2006 were all recalled for so many upgrades its ridiculous.
Please, just some advice would be nice!

The Renisis 13B in the RX8 is a bit of a let down, no low end and the fuel economy is pretty bad. I Love rotaries but I think the RX8 was the let down of the RX series.
Solution: Rx3/4 + 20B PP. = BRAP BRAP BRAP BRAP.
But really, make sure its been serviced regularly and has been redlined every so often, and they need oil top ups a lot more than piston engines due to the nature of wankels.

apparently the porting is different to a "normal" rotary engine because the ports are in a different position which means you can't go as large with the ports as you could in the older rotaries.
My mate has an RX8 and it drinks fuel like a V8 & uses oil which i think is kinda scarey comming from someone whos only ever had piston engines

before you buy a RX8 get the engine comp tested first it would proberly cost about $200 but its great insurance the oil usage is normal make sure you use mineral based oil not synthetic

Owning a rotary is like having aids... you just don't know what's around the corner.

My brother had a 1200 coupe with a 12A bridgey in it and it was a pretty good little car. He always made sure he warmed it up whenever he drove it so the seals had time to get some heat in to them. Never missed a beat.
