hello all. im looking into buying a mates vlct. the only problem is it has been sitting for the best part of 3-4 years without being started.would be good to get it back up on the road again would be a shame to strip a lw5 mx7 calais what are some steps i could take to try prevent damage before trying to crank the motor over?i have no idea i have never had to do this before. fuel pump? injectors? service? put some oil in the cylinders or some kind of lube?

Put the key in and turn. It worked for me.

Start her up and warm her up,Do this a few times to soften the seals up.Do this with new oil,Then take her for a run and make sure she does not become too hot.Change anti freeze, brake and power steer fluid, most likely would do the gearbox as well. Cheers Marty

Fuel sitting for that long would be crap. Id drain as much as possible from tank. Check to make sure fuel pumps still work. Put fresh oil and filter in. Pull plugs and wind over to get oil pressure. Then refit plugs and fire. Just did this with a rusted bt1that sat for 7 years. A slight knock when started but disappeared quickly

Id unplug CAS and get oil pressure before starting it, like a fresh motor.. after 2-3 years some of the seals will be ****ed so watch for oil/water leaks.

I don't know that I would turn it over to get oil pressure without it running. Cranking speeds are too slow to get oil pressure. Most engine reconditioners we deal with say specifically not do it. I would drain the fuel and oil and refill. Remove the rocker cover and lube everything in sight. new filters on fuel and oil. Remove timing cover and turn over once or twice by hand to check that nothing is seized including the timing belt tensioner. Change spark plugs and put some oil down the bores to ensure a ring doesn't nip up. Then give it a crank and hope the 30year old electrics fire up.
