Hello all, I currently run a vl that sits quite low, 1) is it worth going down the path of coil overs, will they give me a reasonable setup for the drags 2) am I better off fitting 90/10 shocks and running stock springs in the rear at the drags As with the current setup I can't get any weight transfer=no grip Some one help still don't wanna give up the good looks when it's riding on 20's ---------- Post added 02-06-13 at 18:56 ---------- Please must be someone here running good numbers that has some advise.. Car run a flat 12 but with a very soft launch... Help

Im not a pro on this but my old setup I had 90/10 shocks in the front and 60/40 in the rear. Was running standard rate lowered springs but not stupid low, about 2 inches off memory. All pedders stuff. Was good enough to run 10.60s. Did handle like a POS though lol. Hope this helps.

I run pedders 90/10 front shocks with king super lows, rear pedders 50/50s with standard springs with 1 coil cut off. Braced lower trailer arms and adjustable uppers. Have done a 1.42 60ft on 255 radials, have the thickest non adj. sway bars I could Buy. Car still handles relatively well!

When you say you have adjustable top arms is that for 9" or does changing diff angle help traction issues too

Still Borg Warner, they are off shelf from nolothane. They adjust pinion angle which helps with grip!

Just get coil overs and be done with it.

My suspension setup is identical to this except for an adjustable rear sway bar and I'm doing 1.48 60ft... So like Sherm... Not bad for a pretty basic suspension setup that is still street friendly and doesn't look bad.

Search for photos of the arms there's heaps. Around 3 degrees is the best bet. What gearbox do you have??

Ive got boxed lowers amd i have the choice of whitline adj. uppers or off the shelf non adj macdonald bros upper arms. which would you guys think would be better?

Definitely the adjustable. The macdonald bros ones would be to suit a certain shock/spring combo. Adjustable will give the adjustability to achieve 3 degrees at basically any sensible height.

thanks mate, yeah i was planning on using the adj. i just got the macdonald bros ones with a diff i got, they are twice the thickness of the whitline ones though.

Approx how much shorter are you adjusting the upper arms to get 3 deg on the diff. Do you know the centre bolt hole to centre bolt hole distance.

So are you racing on 20's? The first thing I would do is stick some ET street 15's under it's bum. There's stock suspensioned VL's going 10's with a sticky tyre so it's doable.

Hey TUF.. 3.7's are good, they're what I'm using in mine.. And I've actually back to back tested these gears against standard VL gears and I just couldn't get a decent 60ft.. My car starts hitting the limiter at about 225kph, which doesn't seem enough, but is just over the line at the drags, so does the trick. Lower arms are boxed, pretty sure duz360 was selling pre cut plates which can be welded in On here not that long ago. Otherwise wouldn't be hard to find a pic and replicate it. If ur planning decent transbrake launches with decent boost... Strengthen up the upper control arm floor mounts.

Have changed the suspension car seems to hook up on soft transbrake launch but unloads at around 10m, any ideas

Talk with Kyle at 6boost, he knows vl suspension setups better than anyone. In particular if you are running radials which you should be.

Dialing in the boost gradually can help a lot also. short/low diff gears won't help unless you have big rubber to match. 3.7's would need slicks or a 2-speed to get a good hook up. for example, We ran 12.1@122MPH on 235/60 on nankang streeters w/stock Calais suspension but to do it I had to dial in the boost slowly up to half track then let it all loose. a VN 3.08:1 diff with traumatic/2800)
