Hi Guys,
I drove my Calais Sat no dramas, jumped in Sunday and made it 20 metres down the road before she starting chugging, managed to get it home very very slowly, now when I start it up, it's blowing thick black smoke and idling terribly then cutting out, conveniently a had a loose fuel line which kindly dumped petrol everywhere, had a mate fix that but can't work out what is wrong with it. Could it be the plugs? injectors? CAS? i've got small amounts of water coming in through the Window Seals but can that cause water in the system somewhere else? Fuel Pump is working as I can hear it turning over and for it to dump the Petrol means it has to be working? Any Ideas???

vacuum leak? have a listen in the engine bay for air being sucked in or hissing.

That will cause it to blow smoke and not hold revs? holds revs when you put your foot down in park, i'll listen for hissing

no sound, no hissing or sucking, turns over great then shakes like a mole and cuts out

is there a chance it could need new plugs? or save the trip and focus on AFM

Air Flow Meter

It will probably need new plugs anyway.

okay thanks, do you know what a Mechanic SHOULD roughly charge to change AFM

Change it yourself, it is 4 allen keys and a clamp.
If not, minimum charge 1hr labour.

The last one I bought cost me $25 second hand.
You don't have someone that could do it for you??
With a name like MizTigaVT, I take it you are of the female kind?

lol nah just a raging homosexual haha yes I am of a female kind,
i'm going to start with the plugs as that i can do myself and can't hurt anyway and head to the wreckers tomorrow on my day off, that's why I asked roughly how much a Mechanic would charge coz they love playing "put the price up" if i supply the part myself ($25 and i'm laughing) should be apples??

18-03-13, 17:22 GMT+10#13 6 or V8 you don't say?
if it's a 6 then yes air flow meter or the plug that attaches to it may have dirty or corroded connections
undo the plug and spray the connection with wd40 and see if that fixes it first
