Any help appreciated.

Universal Drive Shaft Services were more than happy to make mine...
However, I do suggest caution when getting a tailshaft made as a small measurement issue has cost me $4,000 and 3 months off the road so far...

That's my opinion aswell. It is now up to legal proceedings to decide who ultimately pays.

Driveline services built mine, it twisted on my 9th pass, they replaced it. I'd say it'll twist again as I have significantly more power than when it twisted. I have An m and w yoke.

It's only recent hardy spicer has stopped doing them apparently because they are too long for the rpm. That being said we all know the centre bearings have their limits! What's your plan Sherman if you twist it again? 2 piece?

05-03-13, 23:37 GMT+10#10 My Hardy Slicer saw over 60 passes at the drags but only before i had it float tested and straightened and balanced by a CV joint in Bendigo a day before vl nationals. Seemed they couldnt make a shaft that was balanced not once but twice. surprised it lasted this long after being heat shrunk.

07-03-13, 14:11 GMT+10#14 1400mm from back of gearbox case to diff plate. (this is about 55").
Correct measurements for the rpm / thickness / diameter / length calcs is from the pivot of the uni to pivot of the other uni. Which is about 51". Using a 3.5" diameter tailshaft gives about 7300rpm top. Which out of my T400 (top gear is 1:1) means it's higher than my engine redline (6800 currently).

07-03-13, 14:21 GMT+10#15 I know when i had my tailshaft made, they wouldn't even build one for me from the details "VL with a glide and borgwarner".
Cleverly they insisted i measure my exact car at ride height, thats how it has to be done

07-03-13, 14:32 GMT+10#16 Correct - there is no "VL's" need a x length tailshaft - particularly when you are talking about a gearbox that isn't a factory option. Different geaboxes have different lengths. If you've done an engine transplant - has that moved the box/engine combo forward/backward. Some gearboxes can have different length output shafts/extension housings (I know T400 has 3 popular lengths). Room needs to be taken into account for suspension movement, so a custom length needs to be determined at your ride height so they can factor in usually 1" of movement on the output shaft under suspension travel (this is what wasn't done on mine and cost me a lot of money).
Suffice to say, if your getting a custom tailshaft made for a custom application, you need to get the measurements correct as there are many factors and the length needs to be right to work right.

07-03-13, 14:41 GMT+10#17 I have correct Measurements , Its a turbo 400 with a 9 inch so it isnt a "vl tailshaft". Ive been looking at the calculators for lengh vs rpm etc
