what do people think about this ? i honestly think its a load of crap

It's been a rumour for some time, although once upon a time there wasn't "commodores" but hq,hj, etc etc and no one knew the difference.
But... For them to say " were going to stop production" and fords doing the same with the falcon just sounds a bit weird
But unless your a die hard holden or ford fan and want your v6 or v8 there isn't a market.
Everyone's buying cheap 4cyl cars to run around in and they can fit a family these days in them they are no longer little shoe boxes.
I'm a little sad to hear that this is happening and it will be the end of a fantastic era of competition between two companies.

I don't think it's a load of crap, there's no market for big v6's anymore.

Especially when GM is a global company, it's silly to offer specialised vehicles to our tiny country. Just mass produce them and call them a different name in each country.

Aussie like NZ is the land of horse floats,Boats and Caravans.I recon there will alawys be a market for the larger car,And sales here in NZ prove it,But if they stop making them we will have to buy something else.
Time will tell. But even the jap cars motorsd have been getting larger over the years which has bucked the trend.

The Chevrolet SS is our hope for the future. If anyone out there doesnt know what the Chev SS is, its the north American version of the as yet un-released VF Commodore.
The future of the Commodore is this:
Good -The Chevrolet SS does well, and production is moved to north America. Holden likely still having major or total influence on future 'Commodores'. (Australia might still build the right hand drive models)
Bad - The SS doesnt go so well. Production is canned all together. Cruze becomes Holdens main car. A few years later, I think we will see a mid size rear wheel drive car appear again. Probably no Holden influence on it though, except maybe a 'Torana' badge. Think of the switch from the Kingswood to the Commodore.
Unfortunately, the Falcon on the other hand is basically doomed. Production will end, and Ford Australia will ever so slowly dissolve. Or become totally run by FoMoCo.

I find it strange though that they release the new VF in a few months, and then next year it receives the new LT1 out of the Corvette-all to just delete it. You would have to think that like Ford, they're just going to bring out a universal model to cater for us down here, and the rest of the world.

I find it strange that ford doesnt advertise its four cylinder turbo falcon at all. I think it would go surprisingly well if people knew about it. Even turn the boost up a bit and it'd go pretty well, would knock off most 6 cylinders with ease and get great fuel economy.

New Zealand have the best deal. You can import just about anything from Japan and don't have all the taxes and duty's we have in Australia.
Who wouldn't want a quality second hand Japanese built car with low km's for half the price of a local new car.
We get ripped here so hard, its no surprise GM want to kill off cars like the Commodore.

18-01-13, 11:15 GMT+10#10 I bet you as soon as GM and Ford pull the local cars everyone will cry out for a tax cut like NZ has but nothing will be passed on! Can't save a local market if there is none!

Mate that may be true,But and there is a BIG but!!Before your car would be worth a few buck after a number of years,Now they are worth nothing becouse of the cheap imports. All they are is flash rubbish.I have a very good freind that works for Subaru NZ, Average maintance of the import subies is 2.5k dearer than the NZ new ones becouse they do not do the maintance over ther like we do here. Also they can sit for hrs in traffic just ticking over.I would not touch an import with a barge pole!!Look after your own industry and keep your own people working.
