howdy, im doing a vl na turbo conversion and was curious wheather i have to run a "Dump pipe" i have a t4 and original vlt manifold, but was curious if i need an external wastegate at all? if so could i get exhaust from turbo to cat as 1 or 2 peices? and delete dump pipe all together? sorry if sound dumb but i got no idea, and couldnt find any info on previous chats cheers luke,

You need a waste gate. The turbo will either have one built in to the exhaust housing (internal waste gate) or you will need an external waste gate. The dump pipe connects the rear of the turbo to the rest of the exhaust system, yes, you will need one.

you can either run the external wastegate open. witch is illegal and creates a very loud sound on boost or you can plumb the wastegate into the dump pipe

T4 turbo wont fit on a t3 manifold unless its got a t3 flange.

We need pictures here. Grab some photos of the exhaust housing, the exhaust housing flange where it bolts the the manifold and from the back of the turbo so we can see the wheel. Also need photos of the exhaust manifold, and where the turbo bolts to the manifold. The dump pipe it the small bit of exhaust that comes straight off the back of the turbo, its usually shortish, and has a flange on it so you can drop the exhaust or turbo with out having to pull the entire exhaust off.
