Hi Phil and welcome to the site. There is a great article about VL turbo intakes here: http://autospeed.com.au/cms/title_Mo...9/article.html (http://autospeed.com.au/cms/title_Modifying-the-VL-Turbo-Intake/A_111369/article.html)
Also do a search in the top left search field of this site using various related words like, for example, "intake".
Good luck with it.

DO NOT CUT HOLES UNDER THE AIRBOX.
that style of intake was stupid and will cost you defects and then getting it welded ect . if you want a decent intake just build an aluminium Airbox and get cooler/exhaust pipe bent to suit the turbo/ airbox . otherwise do what every other vl does and run an intercooler , air flow meter in the cooler piping and put a 2-3inch pipe off the front of the turbo with a pod filter SHHH TUTUTU . (can course damage to turbo over time)

Or if its a standard setup, just leave it stock. Will look better and avoid defects. Pod filters reduce power anyway.

Yep. Even you could buy a K&N panel filter. Give the turbo more flow.

Anyone know the limits of the stock airbox with a high flow filter?
Cutting holes in your car for an intake is not the best idea

I agree that cutting holes in the car for the intake pipe is a horrible idea hence why I suggested using the search. However the autospeed article shows that the pressure drop over a standard filter is negligible so spending money on an aftermarket filter is a waste. There are also many other good ideas in the Autospeed article and they are all low cost: replacing convoluted 90 degree pipe to the turbo with a smoother tube, opening the airbox intake hole, removing the snorkel and MAF screens. Not only are they good ideas but they actually measured the pressure drops to show the improvements rather than just making assumptions.
