I had my front ball joints replaced and new nolathane bushes installed in the front end and now the steering feels stiff and it does not self centre at all after cornering. Is this common with new ball joints or is it a by product of the new bushes as I've only had rubber up till now. Any experience or advice would be appreciated.

Yes it can happen, give it a bit of driving and it should settle in.
