Hey peps, ive just gotten rid of my vl calais walki replica, and have just bought a 1990 r32 gtr, took the car for a test drive and seemed perfictly fine, bought it off an old man who was 61yrs old and had it imported in aus in 1995 so he was the sole owner of it in aus, i cant describe how ridiculously emaculant it is!!!!!
Anyways, had to go to newcastle to pick it up, on the way back on the F3, i started smelling a heavy either Fuel/Exhaust smell, it was flooding the car,
Even with the windows down it was still strong, it would come and go come and go, its absolutly stock standard, never been boosted, only thing that isnt factory on the is the 20" Gmax rims
Like i said, was very hard to tell what the "ACTUAL" smell was,
Its got 101556kms on it and it JUST. Had the 100000km major servive on, all recipts i have, from all new oils belts plug leads etc etc......
If any1 has any idea of where this smell is coming from let me know, i thought it might have been a leak from the waistgate or one of the injectors or an exhaust leak, but had a look and cant really tell what to look for
Any input would be much appreciated
Cheers

Had a issue with smelling fuel once. It was the hose's that run between the injectors & the fuel rail. Because of the age of the car the rubber hose became weak & was perished. Which made it weep fuel. The hose is only about 3cm long.

Contact the previous owner & ask him if it has happened to him & if so does he know what it is.

Take it to a mechanic instead of asking people on an internet forum who have never seen the car and are only going to tell you to check various different components of the fuel system.

Instead of just taking it to a mechanic and paying him to do things, its good to know how to fix things yaself, alot of people ask questiOns on forums about perticular problems and get help!!!
So i dun see why this is any diff,
But thanks anyways guys for ya thoughts

sounds like a leaky injector from your description, when the car is dead cold turn the ignition on and look around all the hoses, don't fire it up or the heat will make the fuel evaporate instantly

I understand that, but what your explaining is pretty self explanatory. You have a fuel leak somewhere.
The car is stock which would rule out a surge tank setup in the boot causing fuel smells in the cabin.
The injectors are fed by the fuel rail which will be connected to a fuel pressure regulator, which is being fed from a line which runs to your fuel filter than back into the fuel tank. Also there will be a return line from the rail back to tank.
I'd be checking all of the above for leaks
