g'day
iv got a vs calais i brought a few weeks ago and the low oil pressure light was comming on alot along with some pretty bad lifter noise. i was told that the cam bearings worn out and it was loosing oil pressure through there.
i then purchaced a vt motor and was in the process of swapping the sumps over today when i found this blocking the mesh on the oil pick up in the sump of the motor in the vs:
the pick up was compleatly blocked by these copper looking slivers of metal.
the issue now is that iv just found out that the engine looms are different between the motors so im looking at re installing the now cleaned out vs motor.
so, does anyone have any idea where the bits of metal came from?
cheers

That looks like the filtering medium used in oil & fuel filters, if it is metal of some kind (i.e. brass, copper, metal) that would most likely be the overlay torn from the bearings ,either the crankshaft or camshaft bearings.
I'm unaware of ECOTEC v6 engines having different looms from the VS-VY Commodores, the alloytec V6 engines have different looms for the 175 & 190 KW engines respectively in the VZ onwards Commodores due to the fact the 175 have variable cam timing on the inlet cam only whereas the 190's have it on "both" camshafts.
Sounds like you are having the same problem as I had with my LS1 powered Commodore, no "BODY" in Raymond Terrace could accurately diagnose the SRS "AIRBAG" fault, so I had to take it over to Holden at Maitland to get them to do the job properly,it was just a matter of them plugging Tech 2 in and clearing the code.
Does that mechanic in Raymond Terrace no good if I have a car accident, tha airbags don't deploy and I get killed.
Yeah, OBDI gear might work on an old V6 but not the later LS1's & Alloytec V6 engines which are OBDII compliant and are unique in the way you specifically need equipment that is compatible with a Holden.

.
Yeah mate sounds like the exact problem he's having! Some guy in Raymond Terrace has been putting metal shavings into his ecotec sump.

Might not do the mechanic any good, but it would do the rest of the world a favour.
