Hi All, I've got issues with my VL, its N/A it stopped running properly a while ago and since i haven't driven it. It has had a bad miss like a whole cylinder isn't firing. I've checked all the leads and they all have plenty of spark, I went one by one and removed the lead from the plug as the car was running to make sure the cylinders were firing properly. If i have the car running and i take the lead off cylinder 6 nothing changed, the idle continued to run ruff but did not change. I'm was under impression that Cyl 6 is not firing or lost compression. When the car first started to play up i replaced the plugs, rotor button, dizzy cap and MAF sensor. thinking it could be the cause with no result. I drove the car home and left it parked. I have just removed the spark plugs and noticed the difference from the plugs 1 to 5 from number 6. Here are a couple of pictures of the plug from cylinder 5 and cylinder 6 Notice how different they look. Cylinder 6 plug looks like its brand new and has not fired and cylinder 5 looks normal. Can anyone help and maybe advise me of what would cause this if i have full spark at the lead? and it ran the same with the old and new plugs. Cheers Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

It looks like you've got no fuel going into your number 6 cyl. If there was fuel and no spark your plug would be wet and really dirty but your no.6 plug looks like new. Check your elec plug on the injector and maybe try another injector.

Leads arr like new. Coupke of months old before it had an issue. Ive put a multi over the injectors, from 1 to 5 im getting .03 and 6 wont show a reading so no circuit. Will replace the injector and that should be it. Hopefully.

swap an injector over to no.6 cylinder and if the problem moves then you can conclude a faulty injcetor, if the miss remains at no.6 then it could be a wiring problem.

Hopefully. stock NA or VLT injectors should be reading 2.5 -3.5ohms. .3 is too low unless you have the meter set on a range too high. (try like 200ohms range or less) +12v should be feeding all of them when reds is on. the ECU drops the other terminal to earth. keep in mind when testing that that are conencted in two batches of 3.

While the engine is Idling. Look down the spark holes & see if you notice if it is sparking against the head or rocker cover. I'd double check the leads to cylinder 6. Also by the looks of the plugs one isn't firing.

plugs can't fire with no fuel to burn. no. 6 injector is not giving a coil reading. the plug from that cylinder is clean. so spark won't leap through the insulation to find earth over a centremetre away. The spark will find the shortest distance which will be the earth hook that is gappd at 0.8-1.1mm.

Yeah bachig24u I understand LOL. But the current/power traveling to the spark plug will find the easiest/shortest earth point. If your leads or plugs short out on the head it will cause a miss. Double check you distributor cap & your lead plugs. Make sure they sit tight on the spark plug cap. The only other thing that will cause a miss would be your power transistor. Maybe It won't be your coil because your have spark. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

The earth hook on a spark plug is the shortest distance to earth. HTURBO: what you are reffering to is the resistance that is induced from a mixture of gasolene/petroleum (which has relatively low electrically conductive properties) squirted in to a cylinder but there isn't in this case. The plug is dry. so it gets back to earth through the plug ground. If the injector was working, I would agree with you that its worth checking the leads, even though they are a few months old.
