hi guys im new at this but here i go! i have a factory stock vp v8 calais and i would love to put a turbo on her, but im a little unsure and how to do this? i've read other forums but im still after a bit more info before i start this project some say i need to re-build the engine to suit the turbo but others say you can run on on stock internals, i know it does depend on what i want out of it lol I dont want to build a race car and i dont care how quick she will go, i literally only want to do this to have something different. I've seen heaps of stock old v8's, even some that have been supercharged, but i have not seen one thats turbo charged any info would be great but i would love a step by step on what needs to be done, what parts i need and what kind of $$$$ im looking at thanks in advance Nicole Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

It's pretty common to use the extractors mounted backwards, obviously cut and a turbo flange mounted on, and a bit of pipe work. AFAIK for the engine the pushrods are your weak point, and you'll probably want a different cam too. There have been quite a few, look here: http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=195436 Not a V8, but same idea: http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=153870

EZI-10S performance actually developed a kit to put a turbo on a 5 litre , when I enquired about I think he said it was 10 grand drive in/out package . I also spoke with Kyle from 6boost about some manifolds and a turbo but he was busy with other stuff at the time . You would be looking at , at close to 10 grand if you got someone to do it with all new parts . Maybe look at doing a rear mount turbo set up .

I've never done one but have seen pics etc . If you Google it you'll get the idea . Bonus is that when you pop the bonnet it will look sort of standard .

Well, there aren't many turbo VP V8s getting around, so you're not going to get a step by step guide. It's the same as any conversion, you need:turbo intercooler intercooler piping exhaust turbo oil and/or water lines turbo manifold injectors tune or new ECU On top of that, you might find the cam you already have is restrictive/not suitable for a turbo. And while your motor is out having the cam changed, you can change other things. People often go for the cheapest/easiest option when going turbo, but once the power bug bites you'll wish you did it differently the first time. Try looking up supercharged 5L; same principle, and you'll see what got changed in the motor to handle the additional boost. You may not NEED certain things, but you'll be unhappy if you scrimped on something that ends up costing you a new motor or turbo. Edit: can your husband or brother weld? If so, that'll make things a lot easier.

As long as your motor is in good condition and you have a decent fuel system and tune you will be fine with a low boost turbo setup. Once you boost it up and push more than 280-300rwkw you will need to start thinking about building a tougher motor, but not before Take my old VL for example. It was supercharged, not turbo, but it had a stock injected 304 in it, 440cc injectors, fuel reg, external pump and a custom tune. It made 250rwkw on 6psi (manual), which was enough to make it feel reasonably quick on the streets I sold it 4 years ago but talked to the new owner recently who said it was still going strong and he had done nothing but service the car in the time he had it

you can get away with a turbo on a stock motor as long as you keep the boost under 10 psi. i personally would also put a set of cometic mls head gaskets in at the same time. a good tuner is the most important thing along with an adequate fuel system.
