I bought my Calais with an after market pioneer headunit installed in it by the previous owner. He pretty much stuffed the wiring from what i can tell. The guy said a fuse was blown so i replaced that and it worked for a bit. Whenever the stereos volume goes past literally 20 it just turns off and wont turn on unless the volume is lower. I have also figured out that when i indicate, brake, put the wipers or turn on the interior lights the same thing happens.
Not sure if its relevant but there is four melted fuses in the fuse box which have been replaced throughout its life. Currently the stereo isnt working at all, and im sick of having to constantly ring up auto electrician places for them to tell me ridiculous crap! The headunit also has a cord for an amp which is connected but not wired up to an amp. PLEASE any info will help!
if someone can physically help me fix this issue once and for all, il pay you! PM me ASAP please
regards Anthony

Yep sounds like an earth problem to me as well... make sure it has a nice tight, clean earth (not a painted surface etc)

Could it still be an earthing problem taking into account that the stereo shuts off when i indicate/open windows or turn on lights/beep horn? would that be the earthing problem? i also have no idea how look for an earth problem lol

Take the head unit out and follow the black wire at the back of it, then screw it to the trans tunnel near the gear shifter. Make sure you scrape the paint off well so it's bare metal.
If it still plays up twist the red and yellow wire together at the back of the cd player and join it to the red wire from your cigarette lighter for power. Tape up the end of the old wire you where using for power so it doesn't touch metal, earth out and blow a fuse.
