Hey guys sorry if this is in the wrong spot but i looked around every where and I couldnt find anything to help me they all have diffrent answers so i was wondering what is the cheapest and easyest way to convert my vl wagon drums over to vl disk breaks beacause I am soon to turbo it and want to get a compliance plate for it. i have been told you can swap vn setups but how would I do it and is it the easiest way? Cheers BronsonVL
The way I did it
- Used VN backing plates, discs and calipers. I had to massage the brake line to fit into the backing plate.
- Got new axle bearings and disc brake seals installed on my VL axles.
- Also used the VN handbrake cable until I found a VL one. The VN cable is a bit longer but still works.
It cost me $150 all up including buying a whole VN Berlina!.
Cheers
Ben
I did it the same way as you Ben. The problem I seem to have is that I have excess end float in the axles even with brand new bearings and disc brake seals. I believe this is causing a squeal noise from the rear end.
Any problems with using a disc rear end with a drum brake booster?
Never done it myself just heard it before..
I put in a VLT booster when u put my disc brake rear end in
what is the seal your talking about?

The axle is still the same,
The bearing is still the same,
You need a VL disc bearing seal because they are thicker and will stop the any float that you would have that is caused by using the VN backing plate. Make sure you get yourself a 1" master cylinder. That is an absolute must. If the booster is okay then that is the only thing you could skimp on. But I wouldn't advise it.
Other then that, the only thing I would suggest is to get the correct pipe spanners so you don't round the brake line nuts when you try to crack them.
It's very annoying when you have to replace the whole brake line.
Good luck.

Do it properly. dont mess around and do things half assed on the cheap when your talking safety.
At the same time I upgraded to VS V6 plastic booster and VT master cylinder with Hoppers Stoppers line adapters.
Cheers
