hey guys im in the middle of changing a cam over and have run into some trouble. ive installed the new cam.and at the stage of installing the rocker arms. and there not sitting flush. so im assuming ive mucked up the timing. so i thought id start fresh and ive removed the balancer.timing belt. so far ive set the bottom pulley and oil pump markings up.and ive put the cam so the dowel is facing up. so is there a certain order the rocker arms go back on and how can i be sure ive set the motor to tdc any help would be great

53 teeth from the dot on the bottom crank gear. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

na sorry not the timing,. but more setting up the rocker arms right. i think i worked it out. with the cam dowel sitting in the top positions the rear rocker arms can be installed. then if i rotate the cam dowel to the bottom i can install the front rocker arms.

I might be miss under standing but when you put the rockers on they will sit up in the spots where the valves are meant to be open. As long as you do the bolts up progressively so that the set of rockers or rocker shaft goes down evenly and straight it'll be fine. The rockers will just push which ever valves down they need to as per the cam profile

ah ok well what i ended up doing is. with the cam dowel sitting up i could install the rear two rocker arms. then i turned the cam dowl down. and that let me install the front two rocker arms.and i turned the cam dowel back up. so i guess i did it the hard way. but that should work ?

As vxxx said, just do the bolts up progressively. The valves just need to be pushed open.

Do you know if you need your lifter blocks machined to suit the new cam or not?

I'm pretty sure the lifter blocks have to be machined. Had mine done, saves any hassle's later on. It was $84 to reface lifter bloacks(price's may depend where you go) & $130 to machine rocker box for correct lifter pre-load which also included machining exhaust side of the head.
