Hi guys. Im in the middle of building a decent na rb30. So far i have a fully forged bottom end all balance with a deck shave of 1.5mm. Need to know what size cam i should go. I want somthing to suit what i have. My goal is to get around 140+ rwkw. I have 3" exhaust extractors, wolf 3d, port polished head, bigger injectors. What else is needes to reach this and what cam specs

Maybe bigger fuel pump? adjust timing? as for the cam jump on the cam tech website and you can get a free quote once you give them specs on your car.. just a thought

Yer notbsure about fuel pump. I think it should be okay. Im chasing an adjustable cam gear and lifter if anyone knows of any for sale. Ill jump on camtech and suss it out. Might just ring a few joints. Do u no if i can just get mine reground or do i nees to buy a whole new cam? And is 1.5mm head shave gunna make much of a difference? Can i go more?

Im pretty sure crow cams can do a re-grind aswell as the lifters refaced and housing to suit...

get a regrind done through wade or clive cams. stock fuel pump will do 140rwkw easy.

Money that could be spent on HDT badges and dictionaries.
A forged N/A motor is only a turbo away from a forged turbo motor.

25-09-12, 21:25 GMT+10#11 Are you going to be running an aftermarket ECU or Turbo ECU with the injectors?
Best advice would be, don't go to overboard. Yes forged bottom end, cam, injectors, tune and intake ect will give you a little more grunt and will set you up for your future turbo conversion.... Just don't go down the track of N/A forward facing plenum and all the other pointless junk which will just burn a hole in your wallet.
Save that money for a brake upgrade, LSD diff ect

25-09-12, 22:03 GMT+10#12 Im running a wolf ecu. Yer that was another major thing i was wondering about is intake. What should i do. Just xf tb or is there somthing better for na thats on the cheap. I will be gettig 4:11 lsd centre down the track. Whith wat im doin with this engine am i likely to meet the 140-150rwkw mark or is there alot more involved

25-09-12, 23:39 GMT+10#13 Id say with the work that you have said your gunna do and the mods that you've done so far, 140rwkw doesn't sound to impossible. Will be good to see this car once its turbo'd. Post up some pics aswell if your keen?

25-09-12, 23:40 GMT+10#14 Hard to say. To make power on a N/A motor you need to do a fair bit of head work and raise the compression ratio (probably to 11:1 - 12:1). Raising the comp will cause issues when you turbo it in future as you will need to put a really thick head gasket on to bring the comp back down.

26-09-12, 08:08 GMT+10#15 Yer ive been taking pics of the build i just havent uploaded them yet. For the compression of 11:1-12:1 how much of a shave will i need. The compression was just standard 9:1 previously im pretty sure. When i do go turbo i will put a decomp plate on it probably the size of the shave plus a mill or so just to get the comp right down. Thanks for ya help guys

26-09-12, 09:32 GMT+10#16 Not 100% sure off the top of of my head. I think 1mm gains 0.5, any engine builder should be able to tell you.
Heres a thread from JC with how to make the sort of power your after from a N/A RB30.

26-09-12, 22:29 GMT+10#17 Thanks mate that is a very helpful thread. But its makig me think this build is goin to get pretty pricey haha. Got my cousin turninh my plenum in to a twin tb which will be awesome. I expect this engine to be high reving and theres seems to be alot of parts that could crack or snap. But i guess ill just c how i go. I think im gunna have to get a head shave to run the compression i want. Gunna need to shave 4 or 5 mill. So ill take 2 or 3 off block and 2 off head. But the power im goin for is deffinately achievable

26-09-12, 22:57 GMT+10#18 To make power N/A you need a few things.
- Compression. Get that compression as high as you can.
- Good fuel. E85 with some spastic compression will go a long way.
- Revs. Ballance the rotating assembly within an inch of it's life and rev the thing off it's tits.
- Big Camshaft. As much duration, and lift as you can with low LSA.
