Hey guys I bought a gq patrol, it was originally a rd28td, the owner had converted it to rb25det, it was never registered as a rb25 though. Anyway I'm converting it to rb30/25DET as we speak. How will I go about engineering it? Will it need a EPA test? I'm going an aftermarket ecu not a Nistune. I'm in Vic btw. Cheers

yes it will if its not the OEM engine and injection system. if you run it over the pits/engineer with stock RB25 ecu and sensor/injector setup then you may not have any issues with compliance as long as the engine is of the same date or newer in compliance. (check with an engineer) if by any chance EPA compliance is more than just a basic 5 gas exhaust sniffer, it will take highy skilled personel in exhaust emissions compliance to tune the vehicle. To nistune this one, you'll need an RB20 ECU (codes 01Uxx, 04Uxx, 11U00) from memory. A few wiring changes to Cam sensor, knock sensors, TPS and the engine may comply with minimal ecu recalibration.

I just thought because patrols came out with rb30s it wouldnt need one, and obviously the rb30 is older than 1995. Because itw ill be getting registered as an rb30 because engine numbers are on the block not the head.

You'll need an engineers certificate to register it as RB30ET or RB25. You won't need one if it is set up as carby non turbo RB30 as these were originally offered. Yes you'll need an emissions test.

Speak to an engineer before you pay money for something that probably won't pass.

Yep i called engineers today. It will be lots of work to pass the rb30/25 ill need an emissions test. He said if i go stock rb25det stock intake exhaust and turbo he will pass it and i wont need an emissions test. Something along the lines that the 4wd have less stringent emissions to pass. ---------- Post added 25-09-12 at 18:48 ---------- So im just gonna rebuild the rb25det that is in it. Cauld someone tell me this. Motors done 100000k, ive found some really cheap forged rods and pistons that are stock 86mm size. Will i get away with the stock bore? Cheers
