My calais door trims have seen better days and the top piece of black rubber/plastic has cracked to the **** house.
Has anyone ever replaced this or have any tips on how to do it?
Antho...
I think you can replace it.
Theirs a few on Rare Spares ---> http://www.rarespares.net.au/rarespa...PS+%26+RUBBERS (http://www.rarespares.net.au/rarespares/SearchPage.aspx?type=partsfinder&pno=0&brand=HOLDEN&model=VL+COMMODORE&car=17L&productgroup=WEATHER+STRIPS+%26+RUBBERS)
It has that furry stuff on it, but its more of a U shape. I know rare spares pictures aren't the best though.
They look like they're stapled on, but I have no idea how a stapler can get in there :S
Also interested in this... on my door trim, the rubber strip that goes to the window is all pitted and snapped off after the years
Also seen these: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayIS...orig_cvip=true (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&hash=item2571714410&item=160817038352&nma=true&pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&rt=nc&si=uGoQi%2BPd9IwmlJOK9JXP3NPYXzg%3D&orig_cvip=true)
I re-trimmed my doors myself, and I knew there was no way I could replace that strip - it is stapled on, but you'd need some sort of industrial stapler to reattach the strips. Besides, I just about destroyed the strips removing them. I simply bought some fat self adhesive foam tape and used that instead. Does the job and only cost about $10. Only a nerd would notice it wasn't original...

Do you have any pics of how it looks once installed, and how wide did you use?
Sounds like a good option, I might try clark rubber and see what kind of adhesive strips they have.
Here ya go;
Close up;
Not sure on the width as my car isn't here at the moment - but it's probably around 20mmx10mm.
It was self adhesive, but I also glued it on using ADOS contact adhesive.

I got a pair of strips off a Mazda 929 Coupe from the wreckers and just cut them to size, and used small pop rivits to re attach them to the door trim. They fit well, and the Jap rubber does not go hard and brittle. Ive done this to 2 of my VL's.
Only problem is, 929 Coupes are uncommon at wrecking yards, well where I am anyway. 929 Sedan will also fit with a trim, and good for rear doors. But not quite long enough for the fronts.
Off one of these -

Thanks guys, I tried the foam strips, didn't look too bad, but I got 12mm so when I operated the windows it pulled them off, might get some narrow stuff and see how that goes.
