Hi, need some help. I've been gathering parts over the last year or so to build up new engine for my wagon and I am now in a position where i can start buying the stuff that i need to start putting it together ready to drop into the car. Ideally i'd like it done before this christmas. Aiming for hopefully 220kw with stock rb25 turbo and manifolds and 300-330kw once a new setup has been purchased. so here's what I have. 1x rebuilt na rb30, decked, new bearings, new 0.50 cast pistons,. done about 8 months of driving max. 1x (suspected rebuilt) na rb30 cast pistons. havent pulled off head yet. unknown km's but ran amazing. 1x standard na rb30 out of wagon, 68,000, runs well, not rebuilt. 2x standard series 2 rb25det vct heads, about 95,000km's on one and about 170,000 on the other 1x standard r34 rb25det neo head (solid lifters). unknown k's, bottom end spat a rod out the side of the block and a piston slightly contacted the cylinder head chamber but doesnt look to have done damage. rb30 harmonic balancer rb25 water pump, rb30 water pump 2nd hand rb25 and rb30 idlers and tensioners (probably buy new) rb30e oil pumps on na rb30 engines, rb25 oil pump on rb25, rb30et oil pump. (probably buy new 25 pump or check clearances of rb30et pump and re-use) Standard rb25det exhaust manifold blasted and painted (would like a better high or low mount steampipe manifold later on) standard rb25det intake manifold cleaned, blasted and powdercoated. will get a greddy copy or cpc later on standard r33 turbo with standard hard line oil and water lines, standard wastegate actuator etc. (may not use this as i want something along the lines of a gt35.82 but might use initially until i upgrade rb25det s2 wiring harness. probably just use sensors off this for the link g4. new link g4 xtreme wire in ecu standard rb25det s2 injectors, fuel rail, coils, etc.. will only use these for run in if used at all. probably get yellow jacket coils and 800cc injectors on aftermarket rail. So what i basically need help with is selecting all the right parts and upgrades i'll be needing. so fair enough if people think go and buy a brand new water pump etc. i will if need be but i could easily say yeah need a new this, yeah may as well buy that brand new too but i want to use the old parts where i can if its safe to do so.. So if anyone could please advise on what parts I should re-use and what not to re-use that would be great. I also need some opinions/recommendations for what parts and brands to choose for what im after. and what to use for all the little parts such as vrs gasket kits, seals, head gasket choice and thickness, head studs or head bolts, sealants and thread lockers, hoses and fittings and any other bits that i have forgotten. also need to know what i should get done to the head when i drop it of at a cylinder head shop for inspection and cleaning and if anyone knows of any good, reasonable places to take it to in brisbane. i'm leaning towards feeding the oil to the vct internally by removing and drilling the plug that goes in near the front intake cam bucket if that works otherwise i'll stick to a external setup. thanks for any advice p.s. this is a serious thread. i need to get this engine together asap. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Sell all the stuff you have a talk to a engine builder. Set a HP to budget build & go from there.

I want 350 - 370hp, can you please explain why i need to sell everything i have when a standard na rb30 is perfectly capable of handling the power i'm after? I cant see any point in selling a rebuilt motor and a perfect 25 head only to go to an engine builder and ask for the exact same thing but bolted together and with a huge price tag.

Ohh if your only after around 350 - 370hp use the parts you have. RB25/30, with a RB25 head oil/water galleries will match up & if anything I'd change your turbo with a T3 high flow, Nistune to suit twin cam setup & change everything over to RB25 & oil pump blah blah blah. If you have a RB25 ecu stick with that. Just change everything over. But once the boost bug bites you'll want abit more out of the standard ECU. You should talk to http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/member.php?u=5858 he knows allot about a budget build & engine limitations. Also your post is abit detailed & long to understand. Also your mixing old parts with new ie(rebuilt engine). But there's nothing wrong with that if your after a budget build.

Yeah, the engine i was building out of the car was a A8 which i was going to forge but that motor needed a head. In that time i picked up a complete low k s2 rb25det for $450 off a mate. (he had started pulling that motor apart before selling off his project). I decided i did not want to build a forged motor yet for the power i wanted so now i am putting together a engine using a rebuilt na rb30 that i already had on a stand and the rb25det that i bought. Also i didnt want to take the high comp route with the na motor and i didnt want to spend alot on modifications to make a sohc make the power that a dohc cam can make without needing cams, valve springs, porting etc. For what i want the 25/30 seems to be slightly cheaper. that and i love the sound of dohc rb's. i also want alot of torque.

well i've ditched this project to make way for a stroked na ecotec with a 5" exhaust no mufflers or cat and each exiting through the front guards. gonna be a real handfull.
