hi i was thinking of getting my 86 vl calais resprayed in the ve morpheus purple with the silver on the bottom. the previous owner said it had only recently been done (blue over silver) the paint looks great from a distance but on a closer inspection theres paint and clear all over the windows and runs everywhere so i thought thats the first thing i should do but i dont know where to take it my brother is a fully qualified panel beater so im guessing that would knock the price down a fair bit if we took care of most the prep work. i was thinking full respray not a closed door so would i be looking at a couple of grands worth still with most prep done? and how much would that colour cost? i could take it to where my brother works but i wanted to see if anyone had any recomendations (northern suburbs). one last question for a full respray does the car have to be stripped like interior? i want to do inside the door jams and engine bay i hope this all makes sence guys & girls thanks chris

Welcome to CT mate.
I would have thought your brother being in the industry he would have contacts that would look after you and that would probably be the best option I would think.
Couple grand would cover a door closed respray especially if you've prepped the body as much as you can.

Being a painter myself, I would double the price if the job was prepped by someone else. I understand people wanting to get the price down, but a good paint job is 90% prep work...
so when a painter paints over someone else prep work, he has got no idea what is under the primer or what problems are gonna pop up over time, and guess whos gonna get the blame for anything that goes wrong... the painter.
So my advice is If you and your brother want to do the prep work first, get him to talk to one of the painters at his work, and get them to do a cash (after hours job) and dont expect a warranty.
Or you could just use a razor blade on the windows to get the overspray off, and get a painter to rub down and polish out the runs.

i think i will get a painter my brother knows to do a after hours cashy but not sure if i want to do in the door jams & engine bay. do close door resprays look any good im not really worried about the engine bay to much because no1 will see under there as much as in the door jams can you do the door jams without removing interior thanks guys
