Ok, i've read and gone through the search function many times but none of it helped my problem.
I have an R31 (RB30) which has been playing up this last week.
Sometimes in hot or cold weather or if the motor is hot or cold it has difficulty starting. Sometimes it starts first click and sometimes it start after 5 attempts. Sometimes she fires off a roll start, i'm rather confused.
Checked the CAS, coil and even changed the plugs and battery...
Any other ideas?
AFM and the piping to the plenum... that was the issue with mine for a while id check that.
Im also having trouble when the temperature lowers... i think it may just be temperamental in the **** weather.

or co2 sensor... could be anything man but try them
^^ Thanks for your help mate, i've literally exhausted all avenues trying to work it out starting off with new leads, plug, coil, cas. I then put contact cleaner and checked all the wiring, even checked the battery voltage before and while cranking the car and even have had the injectors and fuel lines checked for a blockage or low fuel pressure.
Weird thing is sometimes she clicks over on the first attempt and sometimes she bloody takes her time kicking over in either hot or cold weather and whether the motor is hot or cold in either condition.
I'll try the co2 sensor before i hand ball it off to someone else.
mine started doing this recently, I left it at a friends house for 2 days and it took me about 6 attempts. usually if I put my foot down straight away and keep it at 1500rpm it comes good after a few seconds... but I'd like to know why it does it and fix it ! it has a new AFM too so cant be that
I had that problem with a VL with an RB30E, if I parked it in the sun or started the car when it was warm it was o.k. but if I parked it in the shade all day or started it in the morning I would have to hold onto the ignition key longer than normal, this was accompanied by a bit of blue smoke (that would lead many to think it's the rings or something) ,but in fact the fuel injectors were leaking.
You see, when the engine is warm or in the sun, the heat evaporates the fuel that has leaked into the combustion chamber, but this doesn't happen when there's no heat around.
I don't think any car ,no matter how good it is is immune to annoying faults, like I've been pinpointing a fault in my VY SS Commodore, both o2 sensors I fitted last December look like they have failed (gone lazy).
I fitted a spare one to the right hand exhaust because it was barely moving off 0.45 volts, I gutted the left hand cat out to isolate the fault on that one (it got smashed in when I was working for Westrac) , this seemed to alleviate the fault but then the check engine thing kept on coming back up on the dash, I replaced the left hand cat and that stopped.
It came back up today after I put some fuel in, the left hand o2 sensor is barely moving out of the 0.3 - 0.6 volt range , at first , I didn't want to spend money on replacing it if it appeared to be doing its job , it seemed to be working according to the fuel trim reading on that bank, but I don't think it has been adding fuel, rather just subtracting it on that bank.
It's only like when I drive 1/2 a km then stop at like 50 - 60 km/h, then it comes on, if I just cruise, it doesn't do it whereas it was coming on all the time, I think that whack may have fractured it somewhat.
Yeah , they are the faults that can be a real pain and make you look stupid.
Thanks for the replies fellas, i will be sure to take a look and check it out.
I never had this problem in the past but i will be sure to go over it once again.
Really weird, sometimes it starts in hot or cold weather and sometimes it starts when the motor is hot or cold regardless of the weather outside.
I'll check the wire.
Hi fellas,
Finally got it fixed. Turns out i had a triple whammy...
Crank angle was stuffed again...
Wiring plug to the crank angle was also stuffed.
Some sort of issue with the wiring sending mixed signals to the ECU.
