hi all i have a vl turbo and my fuel tank has a massive dint in the corner which i noticed a month after buying it.. so now its time to change it.. i recently got another tank off a friend but the fuel neck pulls out very easy.. what i want to know is Is the fuel neck meant to be welded in or does it just press in really hard?? any advise would be great...

I might be wrong but I think nearly all, later model VLS had the detacheable neck. - From 1986 to about mid 1987, filler necks were welded on.

Sounds like it'll do the job sealing it up , while tank out check the intank hoses they get eaten away with age

If it's leaking out fuel and the smell is driving you insane than seal it with the stuff you're talking about. if it ain't then best to leave it alone.

In answer to your question and to avoid further confusion all Vl's 1986-1988 had joined filler necks as opposed to the detachable versions found on later models, this includes 63L-68L and 83L tanks.
