hey guys just wondering if a R31 skyline turbo 5 speed driveline and motor will bolt straight up to my VL n/A?
cheers Liam

I'm assuming you're talking about the RB20DET in the HR31 Skyline import because the locally made R31 Skyline was never released with the turbo option that the VL was fitted with.
Yes it will bolt straight in, but that's the easy part, the hard part is to get things such as the diff ratio changed (grab a set of gears from a 4.11:1 Pintara auto diff & fit them or pay a pro to do it),ideally a VLT 4 pinion LSD with that diff ratio & 28 spline axles would be the go, the exhaust may need minor mods to fit (chances are the dump pipe isn't going to be a straight bolt up fit) and you need at least a 2.5 inch straight through exhaust system (I'd go for 3 inch on a turbo engine).
Then you've got to splice the Skyline loom into the VL's because they use multi fire ignition coils, you should be able to chase a wiring diagram up on the net or get an auto leccy to wire it up for you.
You will also need to get a speedo adapter made up by CRS (Castlemaine rod shop) or by Dellow or someone like that because the speedo reading is going to be out, when I fitted the RB25DE 5 speed box into my VL I had to get CRS to made up a speedo adapter which screws onto the speedo output shaft on the gearbox as it was about 15 km/h out or something (I used the tacho to gauge the before & after speeds), there was still an error of +/- 5km/h which is acceptable.
You'd still need to get that made up if using the RB20 box because the imports RB20DET Skylines used the 4.3:1 diff ratio (at least the R32's did).
This sort of conversion needs engineer certification because an RB20DET engine comes from an imported Skyline, not a locally made one, I got away with using an RB30 block because the engine number comes from an Australian delivered car, he may make you fit a V8/turbo brake system to the car (he definitely will tell you to get rid of the rear drums if your car has them), the latest available for a VB-VP Commodore is the VE twin spot conversion, use that & a 1 inch master cylinder & turbo/V8 booster combo.
If that's all too much and you do want to go for a turbo option, providing your RB30's in good nick, just bolt a turbo setup onto your existing RB30 motor, all you'll have to do is run a turbo computer or chip and run an extra wire in for the knock sensor.
Then you'd want to think about brake upgrades ,etc on that.

It will sort of bolt in and sort of make you feel gay in the pants.
