How do i know if a vl turbo is a genuine turbo

HOW DO I KNOW IF A VL TURBO IS A GENUINE FACTORY TURBO . im looking a buying a vl turbo and the guy said its a genuine a8 vl turbo. . How do i know ????????????

One thing you can do is check the car's VIN number to see if its a factory turbo.

Should there be a code or numbers on the plates on the fire wall to tell if its a genuine turbo

It'll have a8 at the end of the engine number stamped on block by alternator a6 means n/a it'll LW5 as the engine type on the vin plate to confirm body turbo LB9 Engine - V8, 4.9 Litre PFI LC6 Engine - L6, 2.0 Litre PFI LFI Engine - L6, 3.0 Litre EFI LV2 Engine - V8, 4.9 Litre High Compression LW5 Engine - L6, 3.0 Litre EFI Turbocharged

PS reading the number on block is a pain cos it under planum and almost behind alternator , by sounds of the other thread your gonna be up for a rebuild as filling the can means rings plus possibly ring lands are stuffed

so long as body in good cond and price is right may be worth it , just factor in a full rebuild price , rather then just rings n bearings she'll be right price then there will be no supprises later on

so the car you're looking at buying has engine probs and you're not sure if it's a genuine turbo but you say it's cheap you clearly have little or no knowledge about all this so I'd say don't buy it and so lots and lots of research and have a good think about whether the idea of you buying a VLT is really a smart one
