hey guys So im finally starting my epic RB30 build. So far I have the whole engine apart. Its pretty much ready to send to the builders. Ill be sending the forged rods and pistons and rings with the block. I was thinking of the normal acid dipping, pressure clean, machining, balancing, blue printing. Is there anything else I need to get my builders to do to the block? if not is it ready to give them the heads as well to get port polished and machined? any other tips are great as i want to be able to keep all receipts and obviously do it once and do it right cheers

Take your stuff to the engine shop, tell them what you have in mind as a final result and let them build an engine the way they do it. If you go there and say you want a pressure clean, a port and polish, a deck and bore... they'll be laughing all the way to the bank. Ask them what they would have in mind to get you your desired result.

ok so as long as i tell them that the car will be street/strip car and looking for x amount of power just let it go?

Definately. Ask them what it involves but theyre the engine builder, they do this all of the time. As long as they're a reputable builder and offer a warranty of some sort then it should be fine. If you need to know exactly what machining and modifying will occur I'm sure they'll be willing to go through it with you.

basically the boss lives across the road from me so I know him pretty well. He does a lot of engine builds but mainly does 351's for Race boats and ski racing. I have full faith in him but I just was not sure if I had a choice of things that should be done. which some people may not do. ---------- Post added 24-04-12 at 19:53 ---------- also while im here, Should i be taking him everything? i.e. should i take crank, rods, pistons, rings, head, cam, lifters, etc or should i start off with just block crank rods and pistons and wait till that is done before looking at cam and head work?

If you want a sandwich from a lunch bar do you ask for one piece of bread, some ham, some cheese, some lettuce, some tomato and some salt and pepper and then go back for the other piece of bread later or do you ask for a ham sandwich with the lot? It'll be much easier to get him to do the whole lot at once and match parts.
