Hi all,
I have just finished my VL turbo build to stock specs. Which just involved rebuilding the engine with new rings and bearings, reco head. Just to standard.
Just a couple of questions, I want to keep it pretty standard (yeah boring I know ) But I have been thinking of an Intercooler, and seeing that the last of the Gktech ones are being sold off on ebay. Is it worth getting one for a stock setup / engine.
I was also thinking about putting the boost up a little more from the stock 6 - 7 psi. How high can you go on a non intercooled stock setup vs intercooled stock setup? was thinking around 10 - 12 psi with no cooler?
The car is just going to be driven around town and highway, no racing, track days etc. Just a general driver.

Yeah but ive only dabbled with N/A's untill a couple of months ago. and have only just got the engine / running gear in the car and driveable. Plus might have been a member since 2002, but have not been a regluar visitor since about '03 - '04. So im a bit of a newcomer to VL turbo's. But Ive owned non turbo VL's for a few years. So forgive me for my lack of knowledge in regard to the Turbo's.

buy a cooler, 10-12psi and a 3'' exhaust. if you dont wanna 3'' system a 2 1/2 will be better than stock. will be a nice cruiser then.

i run a 3" front pipe back, an mx7, (turbo 5 spd) fresh a8 sligh overbore and a gktech with stock boost. i love it!
however keep an eye out for an older gktech as they fit better. no disrespect to gktech great crew and brand but their suppliers changed hands and the quality dropped hence why they have stopped making the kits.

17-04-12, 10:04 GMT+10#10 From experience, for the performance gain you will make turning the boost up to 10 pound and putting a cooler on... I wouldn't bother.
Put it at 8-9psi, **** the cooler off and leave it standard. It ALWAYS runs smoother, uses less fuel and is all round just better.
Once you do a few more things and want to up the boost to 12psi etc etc mayube i'd consider it. Otherwise the difference will be running a 13.9 to running a 13.5... What's the point?
That's just from my experience though. In both stock auto and manual VL Turbo's..

21-04-12, 15:22 GMT+10#11 87VLSL, sorry to highjack your thread mate but just wanted some advice about the gktech cooler without starting a whole new thread. I got one of the dodgy fitting ones for 50% off (stoked about the price and never expected it to fit)
my bottom (cold return) pipe is about 5 inches off fitting the top pipe, if i just cut it and add another silicone join (with maybe 2 hose clamps per side so 4 all up) will this work or am I likely to blow the joins off once i wind the boost up a little bit?
thanks guys, i know intercooler questions must be getting old by now.
