I'm selling a complete car but I want to sell it as a wreck because the body is full of rust. The buyer is from Vic and only wants the motor and trans. What do I need to do to sell it as a wreck? Take the number plates? Vin tag? Does the new owner need any rego stuff or is it just as easy as selling parts? Thanks for any help

Just sell it as it Is. Sign the papers and be done with it.

The other owner can't sign the papers because he is staying in Vic while a transport company picks it up. That means he can't sign my part of the rego form. Plus, the car hasn't been registered in over 5 years now (not sure if that makes a difference). That's why i'm thinking it's just easier to sell it as a wreck. Obviously I've got no idea how this works

Was this car registered in your name? or did you buy it was a wreck? how is it getting to Vic? Paper work doesn't mean much moving interstate, as registration doesn't transfer interstate. Only thing that it provides is engine/VIN number. If its unregistered there isn't much to do. Just for your own safety take off the number plates and hand them in. You'll get a receipt for that. Then put up a notice of disposal stating who you sold it to. Your arse is then covered.

As Above. When you hand the plates in, they will give you a plate surrender form. Tick the box that says wrecked, and that should black list the car so it can't be registered again without a teir 3 or equivilent inspection.

very simple, hand in the number plates and sell the car w/out them give the new owner a receipt with details such as engine and chassis # nothing to worry about then and there's no need to do a notice of disposal as the car is sold w/out number plates treat the car w/out number plates the same as any other item you would sell

Thanks for the advice. It was a registered vehicle and running when my dad bought it. It had been lying around for over 5 years since. Was full of rust but the running gear hadn't had a heap of work. It was a 280zx. We took the plates off and sold it as a wreck. I'll tell me dad to fill out a disposal notice when he takes the plates in. A wrecker from Vic bought it and will have it trucked over with a few other cars.
