Ive just got a 1989 hilux, 2dr, 2wd. I got it about a week ago. The power in it is pretty sh!tty an i wanna get some speed out of it! I was thinking an engine conversion to a supra motor? Would it just drop straight in? Or will i have to modify? If i have to modify will it be alot or a simple job? If i dont do conversion is there anyway i can get the engine in it to put out some decent power? Im pretty sure the engine in it is a 2.4*L 22R-E I4. Thanks for your help..

need to supply the engine, to people that are doing it, for example all race, modify engine mounts, sway bar, will sump fit, there are two different 2jz sumps, and krap like that, then you need transmission aswell, so they need to fit that too

And any associated wiring of the new motor as well. Do some research into 1uz conversions, their that common now surely they can't be that expensive- and they're awesome motors too

If you're not real good with cars then factor in $10k. It's not something to tackle yourself if you need to ask these questions. I've done 3 conversions of varying difficulty and they always cost more than you budget. Wiring is probably the most challenging part. I don't know what the regs are like now, but i wouldn't have thought you could get a 2JZ or 1UZ in a lux registered without an engineers certificate.

i have a 1jz in my hilux is a bit of a squeeze. bit of firewall massaging and leaves about 12mm between the balancer and the thermo fans. makes the hilux quite alot of fun

yep. a mate has a ke70 with an efi 22r that he turbocharged. he used a subaru sti turbo and made a steampipe manifold and new plenum.

So that would be easier?

Probably not. You still need a turbo manifold and exhaust built, an intercooler fitted and piping made up, most likely new injectors and a ECU/tune to suit. So, that still has money in it for customer bits. Maybe search for common mods done on your car and try going from there.
