hey guy i am currently restoring my dads calais and i was wondering if it is possible to get id tags in a non illegal way
we had our 1986 champagne vl calais turbo stolen last year and we were lucky enough to have it recovered, but when it came back it was stripped and the id tags were gone. i was wondering if it was possible to get a new set?
i would really appreciate the help!
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Police gave my mate a printed piece of paper and notified vic roads and they sent him out some paper work so legally there is no I.d plates or numbers on his vlct how dumb is that he could chuck the motor in any shell he wants really.

you will not get replacement ID plates with the same numbers on them
once original ID plates are gone they are gone
if a car is recovered w/out tags or engine or chassis numbers then after investigations new engine and/or chassis numbers are issued, they are known as police numbers
in Vict you would get numbers that start with V and end in P, the V is for Victoria and the P is for Police. sample # would be V852362P
the new numbers are than stamped on the appropriate parts after confirming that the car is indeed the original car minus #/tags
and yes VL's had the chassis # stamped on the top of the LHS strut tower
