has anyone had any trouble with heat wrap tape? i want to wrap my stainless dump pipe with it but have heard from a few people that it eats into the steel and makes it fall apart.

Is it just ordinary fibreglass heat wrap you speak of?? If so it does hold some moisture from being exposed to water.. can cause rusting primarily on mild steel applications but stainless will be fine. ---------- Post added 20-03-12 at 20:05 ---------- Actually any thing will be fine.. My mates engine bay went up in fire and it was still perfect

I think with it keeping heat in it can cause cracking but thats only if it is on to thick, i have had wrap on my manifold for ages with no problems

A good friend of mine recommends to wet the wrap before you apply it will make the job alot easier as it wont spin on the pipe as you wrap it.. you will be able to get it tighter
