I just got my first car from my grandpa and im pretty excited about it. It's a red 1988 Holden Commodore VL SL. It has been stored in the garage for about 4 years but the engine had been turned on maybe once a month, just to get rid of the spider webs. Done about 130,000kms no dents, some surface rust in the boot but no structural damage. It did have a respray but it doesn't seem like a very good one. And EVERYTHING works, air-con, interior light etc... So if anyone could give a rough estimate in the value of this car, that would be much appreciated.

sounds like mine. I payed $800 for it 7 years ago. would've gone for a bit more if it still had 130,000ks in 2012 though.

sounds good. only bad things are its an old car and that surface rust / respray. in my eyes if not done super well they would reduce the value but the important thing isn't value when you get your first car but reliability and if you have full history of the car and its been looked after which it sounds like it has been you are on a great start. don't be discouraged by little electrical gremlins they happen with vl's but do do the car properly and when it comes to electrics just pay someone to do it and do it with new or reco parts. I had a vl n/a i did everything too at home and it was unreliable as hell. i have a turbo now, shot it off to a well held vl mechanic and haven't had an issue since. lesson learned- do it properly once and that one problem won't keep popping its head! oh and get racv or some roadside assist this is my n/a. have a look at the thread you will probably go through everything i did at one point or another http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=110705 heres where i'm at now - http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=147258

looks great, dead ringer for my VL. maranello red/asteroid silver exec. except mine is now wearing a canary haha It's worth as much as someone is willing to pay, people try to sell VL's for outrageous prices these days. but it has very low K's, and seems to be in great nick. and if the seats have no cigarette holes in them, thats rare haha. i don't think you'd have a problem selling it for about $2000ish, have a look on carsguide and stuff, see what you're average VL is going for, will give you a rough idea of what yours is worth
