hey guys, i had a mate that had a motor built by avo turbo world a few years back, but he never go around to getting it into the car, so i bought it.
just wanting to know how much it should be able to make safely and how much boost it could handle : it has the following as writen on receipts :
forged argo con rods $2000
forged piston, not sure of brand but they where $1800
stage 3 cam shaft, with heavier valve springs to suit
massive port work to the heads
and atm it is running a standard exhaust manifold with a 550hp garrett turbo and a standard vl turbo inlet manifold with power porting.
if anybody would have a rough idea of its limits as id like to get a forward facing plenum and a highmount with larger turbo
thanks heaps guys,,, evan

Rods and pistons wont be the limiting factor. Argos are pretty good, a forged piston while you can spend a lot or a little they are all good for over 400rwkw. I had their stage 3 cam shaft and valve springs, made 380rwkw so they are a pretty good thing, they arent huge, but they are ok. Save your money on the inlet, stick with factory, its proven to work pretty good too.

I'd be ringing AVO and asking for exact specs and what they would recommend. I believe it's called JJM turboworld now.

yeah it was a fair few years ago now so im not sure if they would still have the specs? and ive been told the ''special'' avo turbo power porting is ment to work quiet well, but ive seen know body else have or use it, and as with the turbo is it to small or should be a good combination with the motor? i really wanted 400rwks? well that was my aim

What year is the receipt for? There has been alot of staff changes down there in the last 6-7 years, but they are all very competent. I would say the turbo would hold you back from 400rwkw, 35/40 on E85, or To4z on E85 would get it there.

yeah there from 25/09/01, and it says galaxy services pty trading as AVO turboworld, i was able to get my hands on a xr6t 35/40, will that get me there?

Yes just. I think in 01 Ross might still have been there, Terry definitely would have, Mick and Robbo would have been there, All very very competent.
Yeah on E85 it should, would need 30psi, maybe more, which is easy on E85.

Galaxy services is just the name they run 2 companies out of i think, the parts and the work shop were separate businesses. Same same though.

alright then i may have to give them a ring. and can you pump out 30psi out of a worked 35/40 from a xr6t? and would my motor handle that?
thanks heaps for your help, its help me out big time

In all honesty mate, calling them now this long after it was build would be a waste of time unless you want it tuned. You will get 30psi out of the turbo, and a motor with shot peened rods and not forged pistons has made more through a 2 speed than that and held together fine, so with forged internals it will be good to go for that and more.
No problems mate AVO look after my car and have done for years now. JJM turboworld is the guys that worked in the workshop part of AVO, the business seperated and the workers took over the work shop while Lee continued selling the parts.
You can contact JJM on 9796 4899 Col, Justin or Jake can help you out although non of them except maybe Justin would have been around when that engine was built.
