G'day guys. I have a 91 GQ Patrol with the rb30, i was getting around with a stock turbo setup from a vl turbo blowing through an Impco gas setup, went bloody well for 2 years till the old girl started burning oil through intake side of the turbo (Probably due to giving it endless hard times). Now i completely dismantled the turbo to find that the carbon seal (intake side) had chewed out and scored up the alloy housing that it runs on.... I contacted MTQ turbo in Dandenong to ask on a possible rebuild and was told that it could be anywhere between $800-$1200....no way am i paying that for a factory T3! Anyway back to the question, will a cheaper alternative such as an ebay t3-t4 etc fit as a lowmount on an Rb30?

yep they will fit, i had a t4 ebay turbo on my rb30 you may have to grind the manifold abit but its not much at all, and even then if its alot you can get a flange spacer to fit. you can fit a pretty decent size turbo on with a spacer plate, one of the guys on here does a kit for a 35/40 comes with everything you need check advertisers thread
