Hey, I searched it and couldn't find any results. What I want to know is whether the series 2 calais dash is a direct replacement for the other dashes in VL's? Right now I have a cluster dash that is a bit faulty, and I like the series 2 a lot more, so I'm considering an upgrade. What's the wiring like on the series 2, will it plug in and work or will I need to redo the wiring etc for it to work?
Cheers boys and girls

technically there is no such thing as a series 1 or 2 in the vl range, series 1 and 2 came out in models after.
The difference is a style change but behind the scene it was a savings measure in cases.
There is no difference except for looks with vl parts from 86 to 88 vls, some 87 models had a bit of bothm just to use up old stock.

The reason I'm asking is because on the one I'm referring to (here's a pic the dials and pretty much everything is different, and I wondered whether there was any difference.
Are you sure about there not being series 1 and 2? Maybe they're unofficial, but I swear they changed quite a few things, one being the later series all came with the engine block drilled with the oil and water return lines for the turbo, as well as interior differences

It's pretty simple mate...
SERIES 2 CALAIS
There are a few dash types, this is S2 calais. The late model 88 S2 calais dash's were different again and the same as the walkinshaw dash with a few extra warning lights etc. A late S2 goes for around $170+ 2nd hand (u need a S2 berlina or calais dash loome to use these in a S1), the earlier more common S2 goes for around $150+ from wreckers, These are both bloody hard to find, hense the price reflects that...
SERIES 1 CALAIS / BERLINA / TURBO
This is a Series 1 Calais dash, the same as Berlina/turbo dash... These Dash's are as common as R33 skylines in melbourne and hense worth marginally less you can pick them up for $80-100...
Then there is this ugly demon...
STANDARD CLUSTER
Standard Vl dash can get them dime a dozen everywhere...

I did it with a berlina cluster into an exec and the clock never turned off and drained my battery! so make sure it doesnt do that lol. in my opinion they are series 1 and 2 they just never named them. theres heaps of differences but I wont go into that lol

lots of people put calais clusters in commodores, they are the same fit etc so yeah no problems with replacing your old one for a new one.

no there is hard evidence that before the vn commodore there was no such thing as series 1 and 2. Yes there are subtle changes or big changes but not noted as series one and two, there was abig article in streets commodores a couple of years ago and it was a very interesting read.
The artilw prwtty much went through all model cars pre ve and noted the changes from vb commodores in time line form.
On another note, didnt you have to bridge a connector if you are putting a calais cluster in a exec vl??

you would need oil senders for the oil pressure gauge on the S2 cluster no?

08-03-12, 05:57 GMT+10#10 Series 1 and 2 work the same. Regardless of which one your fitting, if it's going in a standed exec everything will work except oil pressure. If you want that to work, you need a oil pressure reg from a calais or berlina and loop the blue wire behind the cluster. Easy.

That's correct from a build/Holden's brocher in reference to models prior to vn, there were no series 1 or 2 vehicles. The public refer to the vls as series 1 and 2 in order to explain what motor and/or interior the vehicle they are talking about have fitted. It's a good easy reference.

!00% correct and there were really 3 changes during the VL,Another urban myth about there being a series 1 or 2.NOWHERE in any holden offical write ups is there a mention of any series 1/2 or 3.But back to your dash, Just plug in and play.

11-03-12, 11:02 GMT+10#12 yes it will work unless u have got the normal pov dash with no rpm then u will have to change the oil pressure sensor to a sender easy job and as i recall doing mine u have to move some wires that plug into dash it self from eg a certain pin to another so u get oil pressure but thats if u have pov pack dash other wise no probs

12-03-12, 22:31 GMT+10#13 I did a exec cluster change to a berlina and it slotted in fine, no worries at all, so I doubt you will have any problems
