Guys,
Some advice please.
My A8 rebuild is almost complete.
This will be a brand new engine, pistons, crank, bearings, ported etc etc
What's the best way to run this baby in!!!!!!
Should I run boost straight away? How much or none?
Interested in CT members thoughts.
Cheers
Mate run it like u would drive it on a daily basis, just don't hit the limiter coz ya can bang a berring out, just be sensible bud, run boost as u normally would
tks mate, thought I'd start a thread and get people's thoughts.
What u reckon 5,000ks is enuff of a run in????

Original post from boosted_wagon
Run what ever boost ya want Aslong as the tune is ok like if ya running standard injectors and ecu then I wouldnt recomend running any more than 10psi as it may lean out but don't be shy to give it a boot full, if ya baby it then it will end up being a slug.... Just drive it as u would on a daily basis just dont hit the limiter as on a fresh engine there's a small chance u could bang a berring out
5,000kms!! 500 is MORE than enough! Everyones opinion will be different. This is how I ran in My last engine: use running in oil, run actuator boost pressure, stay under 3/4 throttle. change oil and filter then drive it however you want!
Man think about this, if the likes of rajab, jpc, and the likes build an engine they warm the engine up check for leaks and so forth then thrash the ass off it on the dyno....same as an engine dyno they check to make sure all is ok then screw the hell out of it..... If the tune is good then the engine will be 100%.... Do u think engines from factory like Holden ford Toyota ect are babyd when they leave the production line... Man they hop in and Cain the hell out of them.....
Like tuxedo said every one is different like him I'd run crap quality oil for 50 of that then change to good stuff but I'd stand on it from the get go.... But yes every one is different there's no rote or wrong way, if some one else is building ya engine then do what he says
load it up, really bed the bearings in, labour it, run it up a few hills, etc, virtually wat they do on an engine dyno (but not quite to that extent).
dont keep constant revs always keep varying it thru a range of revs, give it a bit of a poke everynow and then but yeah dont take it up and smash limiter or anything silly like that, just dont coast around (highway driving is not really any good at all for running in).
mayb yeah 2,000k's using good qualitly running in oil (motul or redline, etc), mayb 10psi boost, then yeah after that drop it and new oil and filter, more boost if u like and a tune.
That's sounds reasonable.....
What you reckon max psi for standard VLT injectors is 10-14 psi?
Im going to put it on a dyno anyway, just curious though?

Good advise, exactly what I did. With the first few tanks fulls I run decent fuel in it. Either premium or bp-ultimate. Because mine was a manual I'd loaded it up. ie(running 1st to 3rd to 5th with heaps of load. Just don't rev it out consistently in the one gear. Might polish/glaze your bores.
This was literally on the front page of vl turbo discussion.

do a search, its all here!
I realize that isn't helpful, and i apologize, but you just need to look for 10 seconds to find an answer. I myself ask tens of ridiculous questions each year, but that is always after searching the forums.
the thread i have linked you has my response to this question, as well as those of other people.

Exactly, we should have a sticky on how to run in your engine. Maybe in the members section we all can come to a conclusion on what's the best alternative.
"TheChad" that was very helpful cheers.
Agreed needs to be a sticky.
Def put it on a dyno, run it in properly......then 300rwkw can't ***in wait!!!!!!!!!
drive hard but safe like some one said earlier when the engine builders build theier engine they dont do 500kms on the dyno get it hot check everything then go hard or go home

Prob not going to make 300RWKW with standard VLT injectors!
if u do youll be maxing the $hit outta them!
Def wont get 300rwkw with standard injectors mate!!!!!
My set up will be the following after run in:
Haltec Ecu
Garret 35/82
660 seimen injectors
Then I'll do 300
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
while its all dependent on the cam i had 300rwkw on a low reading dyno with
Microtech
35r with 1.06
and 660 seimens
its all in the cam, but easily done.
