i put vlct running gear in my berlina a fair few months back and when i start it, it seems to idle fine but coughs and splutters a bit under a bit of load but seems to smooth out at higher revs also the manifold gets hot as fark on idle after only 5 minutes or so. also when i done the conversion i some how snapped the knock sensor wire out of the very base of the sensor could this be an issue? i heard that this will cause the timing to retard 5* but when compensating by turning the dizzy forward another 5 (20*) it idles like a pig. it seems to run best at 10* but thats not right is it? any help much appreciated was going to be a project but i lost my license and sold my daily now i get my license back in the morning and need my car on the road :/

knock sensor being unplugged wont cause any problems, so can count that out. and yeah id try a timing light and set the timing, and try a new set of plugs. manifold getting hot is a sign of timing being out.

Yeah i set the timing with a light ive read to set it to 15 BTDC but when i did it was idling heaps rough but when i backed it down to 10 BTDC it idles nice and smooth but its a bit of pig under slight load
