Just done a rb30e+t conversion in my Gq patrol. Runnin all std vlt gear except for a Gq patrol eFI Intank pump and 3" exhaust with custom dump finished off at the diff.
Stoked with outcome. Although slipping clutch, which will be replaced and a massive over boost.
The setup is not cooled and base timing has been slightly retarded before a/f ratio check as well as the -5 deg from no detonation sensor.
The clutch slips before full load but I'm seeing boost pressures close to 12psi???
I expected an increase but double the boost??? I know there could be something up with my diaphragm or waste gate rod length but doubt it.
Has anyone else seen boost increases like this. My actuator has Nissan on the cover and believe is std.
Yeah man was expecting 9psi tho.
This is wat I gained on my last setup although had 3.5" exhaust on a8 bottom end with stock diaphragm.
12psi with slipping clutch so possibly more...... That's twice the boost. Want to know if anyone else has done similar.
a bigger exhaust will normally see you get a few psi increase maybe 2-4psi but i wouldnt think 6, does you actuator rod have a thread on it? if so id say youve got to much preload on the diaphram, i did this on my old set up and ran 12 psi with it, just tighened it then pulled it onto the wastegate flap, but yeah if it is adjustable id pull the rod off, adjust it so it slides onto the flap with out having to pull the rod forward then tighten it maybe 5-6 turns pull it forward onto the flap and start there. if its not enough and only makes 2-3 psi just tighten it more. there is an actual amount of preload that is ment to be on the diaphram but i cant remember how much it was. hope this helps
The diaphragm has preload and strokes the waste gate open about 10mm.
Had a look at the gm manual last night and the specs for the waste gate was 52-57kpa = 0.38mm rod movement. Doesn't seem right 7.5-8.5psi for 0.014" rod movement.
Will hunt the net for a procedure to adjust as its a mission to get to the actuator in a troll.
Camel-wgn (http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/member.php?u=8516) is the actuator arm loose. Any slop or movement?? Do you have a standard air filter?? So if you have a standard RB30 you don't want it to spike LOL.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

if the actuator arm was loose it would be making little to no boost, not more

I was always told that you should pull the actuator arm on only 1/4 of the hole, so its just got slight preload. Anything less and you will rob yourself of torque.
