if they are a factory made adr approved replacement item they are fine, modified std struts = illegal

they're pedders extreme coilovers

check with pedders if they are adr approved and get them to give you evidence they are and you should be right, but at the end of the day if they don't want to sign off on them they dont have to as its there business at stake

it's not as simple as that
if the car wasn't originally designed to have them from new then fitting them may cause a range of issues including them fouling other vital parts

they are a standard replacement item. nothing is modified to make them fit. nothing structually is altered. front end geometry is not changed. there is no problem with them at all

my boss just got off the phone to pedders and also vic roads and as far as they are concerned they are legal. winning!!!
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

they probably are only illegal because they could potentially alter the ride height to below 100mm and bump stop clearance by more than 1/3

Exactly what vhr32 said. And yeah there illegal. but what isn't these days. It's always good to have the standard parts in case of this ****.

So can an angle grinder, yet you can still carry one in the car with no problems

24-02-12, 19:34 GMT+10#12 if they have rings too adjust the hight they need a way of locking the rings. Tein make a street legal coil over that from what i have been told has grub screw going though the ring to stop them moving when in use.
I know they are very expensive compared to other much better items.

Think you might have missed the point mate. Your example is like saying may as well jail everyone just incase they commit a crime.

I don't think I have mate. My obviously exaggerated analogy was to demonstrate that i think it's ridiculous that they consider a modification illegal just because it has the capabilities of making the car illegal (which is easily avoidable at that). Kapeesh?

lol, an angle grinder on its own is not an illegal weapon or other item. It has nothing to do with a vehicles handling characteristics.
Generally most adjustable things that can be adjusted to 'illegal' aren't allowed by vicroads. Things like boost controllers, adjustable ECU's, etc.
Airbags are fine if they're fitted with auto levelling as it's being legal whilst travelling.
Either way whether you agree or disagree they're the guidelines we're supposed to abide by.

27-02-12, 21:13 GMT+10#16 pedders coilovers have locking nuts therefore once they are locked into position they dont move! i've been given the all clear by vicroads and the guy doing the roadworthy so dont hav to worry about it.... until i get another canary

If you did keep a copy in the car. If you didn't try and get one.
