Hey guys.. I recently replaced my fuel tank after some idiot drilled some holes through the boot floor straight through the tank.. I didn't have much of an idea when I had it out but I did notice that there was no hose off the bottom of the swirl pot (figured out its the fuel return line) I am not running an internal pump anymore but what options do I have too replace the hose? From searching I have figured most people cut the tank to fix it... But another option might be to use a VS fuel sender as it has a return line built into the sender/pickup.. is this viable even with the hose missing off the bottom of the swirlpot? The only reason I do not want to buy yet another tank is I have painted it & also used a fuel tank sealer inside the tank. Cheer.s

Options. Walbro intank pump to surge tank & one or two 044's. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Nah that wasnt the question! I have skipped the intank pump.. running carter black to undercar cpc surge tank then twin walbros with twin feeds to bay. The question was about the swirl pot hose not being present & possibility of fixing this problem without cutting the tank open

I don't know M8. I thought you'll need a lift pump no matter what the setup you have. Unless your running a fuel cell.

If you're going to use a VS fuel sender, you're gonna have to run a high-press internal pump I'm guessing? I'm saying if that's what cars from VN onwards use then you're gonna have to do the same for it to work. ....OR...replace the hose connected to the swirl pot - it's only a rubber hose held to the bottom of the tank by two clips.

Well replacing that hose is a joke of a job! thats what I was trying to avoid.. but I just cut a hole in the fuel tank that should fix the problem. I am not running an internal pump at all just an external carter black.

This is my intank pickup.. Goes out into a carter black then 100 micron aeromotive stainless filter then to a 2.5L undercar surge tank with twin walbro pumps & a magnafuel filter on each with 25 micron stainless element on each. Running the standard fuel lines for each pump & a 3/8 return hose from an aeromotive -6 efi reg. I could always put the intank pump back in but I think the carter should work a bit better

So did you end up getting the tank cut/opened at some time, to see what was happening inside?

Yeah just did it yesterday.. cut the tank and replaced the hose.. you could replace it if you had someone with really small hands but cutting was the better option. Welded it back up late yesterday arvo.. I had allready cleaned the tank out with acid prior so was pretty confident would have no explosions.

In my old VLT, I just installed a VR tank and sender, and fitted a brand new VL lift pump to the sender. Needed to cut the filler neck off the VL tank and fit it to the VR one with some large diameter fuel safe hose. FYI jbonez, regular fuel hose isn't designed to be immersed in fuel, and can apparently deteriorate. There are special types of fuel hose that are designed to be immersed.

Yeah I used gates submersible hose I had some laying around. I did notice that I cant blow through the return hose hole since I put the hose in it seems like blocked or something? It is a venturi system but I dont no if it needs fuel in the tank to work properly? Can anybody confirm.. or I am going to loose my head if I have to replace the tank. ---------- Post added 20-02-12 at 21:46 ---------- Anybody know how this venturi think works? Will it not be able to be sucked or blown through unless fuel is present? Dont want to be putting the tank back in if its rooted.

It is 100% factory.. but I was testing to see if my return line wasnt blocked and i cant push or pull air through the hose... Just suspect on it, need some advice before i put the tank back in.

Perhaps the connection at the swirl pot is blocked; if that isn't then there is a block at the fuel tank pipe. It's pretty strange how there's a block there. I've recently done some repairs on my tank and luckily did not have any dramas internal wise. Maybe load up a pic if you're keen. Jorge

I found an 80L tank out of a vr v8 for $80 today.. I am just going to use this as it has a high flow internal pump as well so it will suit my setup perfectly I will probably not use the carter pump now.
