Just put a deposit down on another vn 5 litre, only thing is this one dowsnt have a vortech hanging off the side like my old vn ss.
This one is going to be my daily for the next couple months until i sort my 80 series out, so im not thinking anything to
extreeme for the momment.
Allready got an exhaust system and im wondering what these memcal
upgrades are like gain wise?
Wouldnt mind throwing in a set of diff gears, tamper with the auto too. Wouldnt mind suprising a few gen 3's whilst i drive to work lol...
which memcal are you talking aboot?
They are cheap enough, so why not?
Diff gears and auto are the best place to start.
If it doesn't have a built auto, save for one, as a stall converter will cook a standard old vn gearbox quite quickly
Not sure on wat memcals, been looking around but they all claim to be the best, anyone goy any feedback on wat theve used?
Yeah i know how weak the 700s are once u start flogging them definatly end up getting one built. Not expecting it to be a rocketship, i know ls engines are s much better starting point, but ive got a vy calais ls1, just doesmt have the same raw feel like the old holden 5.0
so these memcala work or is it a flog?
There's a guy on justcommodores with username greenfoam, he tunes memcals for most Holdens to suit your mods etc.
He's highly recommended and he's been doing it for a while so I would definitely check him out if I was even considering getting a memcal.
This guy sounds genuine, for $150 you get the 185i HSV chip.

Greenfoam seems to really know his stuff, but I wasnt impressed at all with the obey I got for my vn ss. I ended up putting the old one back in. it was tuned by chris from spencer race engines in werribee.my vn that I recently sold easily kept up with mafless tuned ls1's and it just had extractors, a good clutch, crappy exhuast and 3.7's with a mechanical locker. I have no doubts a healthy 5 litre with exhaust, stall converter and diff gears will be surprising off the line.
Cheers guys,
yeah the guy from ebay does seem pretty genuine and seems to know what his talking about, might give him a try.
Wat are the other differences on the hsv 185's? Im thinking just exhaust system, extractors, cold air and the memcal?

You need to wire in the knock sensor.
