Hey guys.
About 5am this morning i woke up to my car alarm going off in my driveway. I threw on the lights scrambled out of bed to throw on some clothes. I get outside and the alarm has stopped going off by this stage. open the door can't see anyone. I leave the drivers window down a lot (bad habit) so was thinking something had set it off until... boom a head pops up from behind my car!
I say "oi, F*ck off" and the guy walks out from behind the car. crowbar in hand he stares me down and says "what"
a mate of mine is living with me for a while so I say "chris get up, give me your phone" tell the guy to f off again and that i'm calling police. he still wasn't moving so i shut the door for a few seconds allowing him to leave. i wasn't game to walk out there and face down with a crowbar and some junkie.
call the police give them a descriuption. -
white,
blond hair
red jacket
black maybe navy pants
big f*ck off crowbar
20-30 but maybe early 30's. didn't see which way they went.
after i got off the phone i went and inspected the car. doesn't seem to be any damage but the centre console was open. he's nicked all of my change and the spare key to my sister's car. lucky she wasn't parked at home.
the police turn up and i tell them this. they are happy to keep scouring nearby rather than inspect my car as i'm happy that there isn't much to see. they came back and by now an hr has passed and they haven't got him. they took a statement and left.
i tried to go back to sleep but couldn't so i just lay in bed. an hr later again (now 7am) i get an unknown caller. they've gotten him. description matches to a tee and he was found in the police's words "around the corner hanging out of another car"
so i'm at maccas now having a feed and sharing this before i go to the cop shop to make a statement. a timely reminder that even if you live in a nice street and your car is in your driveway under a carport some junkie will still try so don't make a target of yourself. given the timeline i'm pretty sure that he tried to open the door before anything else so the entire time i was putting on lights and throwing on pants is the time he used to nick everything. my window overlooks the carport (i mean the carport is just outside... no grass no nothing) and he was still happy no nick stuff while the alarm was going and lights were being thrown on. he was still in the car when i opened the door ffs then he stood in front of me and challenged me to call the police! that was his error had he run i wouldn't have had such a good description.

That's excellent news they caught him.
Now if only Australia actually punished criminals instead of listening to their sob stories then letting them off pretty much scott free.

so got to teh cop shop and heres what happened theerafter.
cops show me a statement pretty much as per above. i say that all i want to add to it is that i had a full view of him and spoke to him from 4m away hence why i had such a great description.
The police recon they have 3 confirmed thefts he has pulled off starting at 12.20am, me at 5 and the guy who's car they caught him in at 7am. he is also currrently on parole and so smashed that he didn't know where he was. they have pretty strong evidence against him, he even had some of my pennies from the UK.
heres what he had on him when they took him -
1 navman
heaps of change
4 cds (1 cliff richard, 1 2cd set classical, 1 pink floyd, 1 supertramp.)
1 car key...
heres where it gets strange(r than cliff richard )
he also had a case for something (not a navman but similair size)
and a car's service books.
they recon i won't hear from him again and he will be going well to remember talking to me let alone where he was when it happened. he is locked up getting sober atm. lucky for me and everyone else4 it was my description that got him. the patrol car must have kept prowling for him which is nice of them.

p.s. the vl is ok. it wasn't on the property and is always super protected and out of sight anyway.

yeah who knows... the police even recon the crowbar had been nicked from another car. theres a hsv and a few tradie's utes in my street on the road so not sure why he ventured into my driveway within sight of 2 bedfrooms and then stayed when all of the lights came on and the alarm. police recon he was just hammered. and yeah not sure what he was in for before but judging by the fact that he got drunk and will now be locked up for a navman, 4 crap cds and some shrappers you would think it's petty crime.

12-02-12, 10:53 GMT+10#10 i wish i had a photo to name and shame the guy! so stoked they got him i was having all of those "what if he comes back" thoughts. I asked selo to bring me the cricket bat we made out of a 2x4 for aust day ha. i was just happy the guy left though. i closed the door to let him walk away. i didn't think he'd gotten anything and i just wanted him the hell away from me and my car with that crowbar.

12-02-12, 16:21 GMT+10#15 firstly great news that he got caught, your car wasnt damaged and you werent hurt
but this is just my opinion and if i was in the same situation and someone fronted up like that at my house after breaking into my car i wouldve done the same thing about closing the door on him but that wouldve probably been only to go back in the kitchen and grab every knife in the drawer and put an end to the precious air this low life is wasting

12-02-12, 20:10 GMT+10#18 well this guy was on parole and he has hit 3 cars that the po knew of so i think he isn't in a great position for a good behaviour claim...

$hit bloke though. stood at the end of my driveway tonight you can barely even see that a car is there. everything about it is odd, his targets, his stolen items, his behaviour... i am starting to think that he was either having a really bad trip aswell as alchohol or he actually wanted to be locked up?
