Is it legal in SA to convert a non-turbo automatic VL to a manual turbo?
I have upgraded brakes and am going to use the factory exhaust manifold and airbox and the inlet is a N/A factory one modified to face forward. The battery is in the boot in a vented/labelled box with isolation switch. I have 3 inch cat with pretty quiet exhaust and standard height so car looks pretty legal, it would be great to have nothing to worry about when cruising so I am trying to make it as legal as possible. Thanks.
To can convert any car without certain as long as the model had the options available and the car has the requiremtents of the higher power eg brakes etc so yes it is ok to convert it to a vlt and still stay legal
you will technically also need epa gear such as carbon canister + the thing that goes on the fuel tank, theres different stuff aswell like disc rear end, master booster, fuel reg i believe. all of this stuff will need to be done to make the car 100% legal.
OK, I do have 2 x 3" holes in engine bay. 1 for intercooler pipe and one for cold air feed. I thought it was OK if it is only in the guard? Not the chassis. I have VR brakes all round with a VL turbo diff and VR Booster. So lack of cannister and the fuel regulator are illegal? My catch can has a return to the sump so that is OK isn't it?
the catch can has to breathe through the PCV in to the inlet manifold to be legal. There is no difference between turbo and N/A fuel pressure regulators apart from the mounting bracket. The holes will be fine but they are supposed to have pinch-weld around the edge.
