Hi All, Having a problem with my 02 vx ss auto. I was driving to work yesterday & it dies on me. No sputters or anything. Just shut itself down. I tried to start it, it winds over easy and as it fires up it dies again?? I thought it might have been out of fuel because the light had just come on the night before. So I just left it. Went back today & put 5ltrs in it. Still the same I dont have time to check it out today but I will tomorrow. Can anyone tell me what to look for? I want to get it done quick & painlessly! The only thing I can think of is that they key has been a little ****y at times. And does a similar thing but it usually works after two goes. Cheers.

Is the key making proper contact with the security ring around the barrel. Could be the immobiliser shutting it down. Do you have another key to try or bend that ring out slightly?

Changed the ring & got a new key today brawler. No good. Also had the BCM checked at the same time and that is fine.

There is a schrader valve on the fuel rail. Un screw the cap and see if any fuel comes out when you press the valve after you have primed the car.

Cheers duke, that was one of the first things I checked.. I've had the bcm checked, that was fine.. The thing will start if I spray aero start into the intake pipe. So it has to be a fuel issue? I recon it's the pump but I've not had time to check it out properly, Plus the car is sitting on the side of the road near my work. Quckly changed the fuel filter after work tonight praying it would just be that. No luck. By the time I did that, primed it and tried to kick it over the battery was going dead, So I've brought that home to charge. I'll go back tomorrow and check that valve again.. If the pump isnt working I shouldnt have fuel, correct? or might the pump still shoot fuel up there without much pressure?

Sounds like a fuel issue. They don't like getting low on fuel at all. If the pump is working you should have fuel coming out of the schrader valve. However you may also have air locks which being a dead head style system may need to be bled out. Once it is charged I would try turning the key on for 15 secs, turning it off for 30sec and then on for 15 secs etc. Do it a few times and see if it primes through. I would also try more than the 5L you put in the car.
