Each to their own but after seeing them done with my own eyes today i would definately not trust them, especially for any sort of motorsport (drags/burnouts/racing)
You go from a 5mm collar to a 2mm collar, that can't be safe anyway you look at it.
Would be even worse if not using a steelie to i'd imagine.

It is 3mm (steelies - starts off 5mm and machined out to 2mm)
I watched VE SSV's get done to... definately not 1mm
Not to say they WILL fail but i wouldn't take the risk doing certain activities that would load them up... wonder how insurance would go to?
EDIT:
Even to the naked eye that can't be "barely 1mm"
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Like i said it was Steelies that were from 5mm down to 2mm
Saying that i saw some VE SSV done and it definately wasnt 1mm... you guys bash them off and on or something?

which way round is it?
are the VE studs bigger and centres smaller?
so you bore out the centre and have loose on the studs yeah?
either way round its a risk!

dan - i measured them when i got them done.
ve rims have a 69mm center, vb-vz rims have a 70mm center.
the only issue is that ve's have a 14mm wheel stud as opposed to a 12mm stud like the vl's. only real way around this other than redrilling your disks etc is the get tapered wheel nuts with a big flaire on them, i justs the newer style mag wheel nuts and i know of alot of other people that have done the same with out any issues.

The VE steelies went 67mm that i had straight from holden in Bunbury. The 15x7 one i measured was 70mm.

I dunno how you could be getting 69mm? SSV different to all other VE's?
There is another way around the wheel nut issue, Ford Focus/Fiesta steel wheel nuts (without the chrome caps)
What nuts are you using? i would hope you aren't using VZ and earlier nuts as that would be just as unsafe as running machined rims...

25-01-12, 11:51 GMT+10#13 If you want to get technical
Pre VE are 69.6mm and VE onwards are 66.9mm
My brother is a machinist, i'm guessing his measuring tools are alot better then whatever dodgy tyre place is using
