Hey guys i was just wondering if anyone could help me on advice with alarms, I've been looking through all the threads and everyone has suggested what to do but no one has really given any specifics. I am looking at a few on ebay for about $60 with central locking and remote start I was wondering has anyone had one and are they good or should i fork out a bit more, if so what are the main differences and can anyone suggest one. cheers

Mongoose m60 is a 2 point immobiliser which can still be stolen or the m80 is a 3 point immobiliser which the only way the steal it is by towing it. You can get the m80 fitting with central locking for about $600. Money well spent in my opinion.

Yeah I was kinda looking for a cheaper alternative, it would be tops and thanks for your input but its probably over kill for what is basically a stock wagon. If some one wants to steal it that badly ive no doubt they will get it as all the guys on here have said, but if some ****nose breaks in looking for a joy ride it will save me. But im up for persuasion, what makes them better then the cheap Asian stuff

A sixty dollar alarm is a waste of time, most alarm shops supply and fit the brand they stock, they don't like ebay junk.

look for - sensitivity all black wiring # of points of immobilisation # of points of sensors how do you know it has been triggered? I had an n/a calais with a $1000 alarm. it was a mongoose. it had 3 points of immobilisation and central remote locking. it was installed at that price and there were a few other benefits. it was super sensitive (left a window cracked and the wind set off the movement sensors) alarm could be triggered by shock to car / air movement inside and the opening of doors / boot / bonnet. what i thought was the bees knees is that it was one of the earliest alarms that would actually work with a sim card and text your phone. with pagers they only send in a short distance and if you are at chaddy or work and theres heaps of concrete in between u and the car do you really think the 400m transmission range still applies? also lets face it noone pays any attention to car alarms anymore. you want to know when it has been triggered. the sms sender unit almost doubled the price so the top of the line mongoose can be had for like half what i paid all up. if you want to cheap out just buy a remote central locking unit and then get a couple of hidden killswitches. this is pretty good advice my friend. take it and don't be buying cheap and nasty thai or chinese immobilisers.

i bought one from repco. cost price was 120 retail was around 300. immoliser and alarm combo. i decided to buy it after my was stolen and recovered. you can pick which immobilisation points you want. I have mine running through the fuel pump and the starter circuit. you simply cut and solder the wires in the comp. if a girl can do it you'll be sweet Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
