just wondering how you guys have done it, and wondering if someone could walk me through a good way to do it?
My vl is running a microtech lt16s, which has the option for a 2 step.
Jack (VLWAGONIT) suggested using a switch and setting it up to run off the horn, and said it would also need a relay. im not exactly sure how i would wire that up, but it would provide a good way to do it, given that i could hold down the "horn" and then release as i let the clutch out.
I was thinking of using the handbrake warning light, has anyone done this? would be much easier. i would simply need to find the wire downstream of the handbrake and T off another wire, with a switch in it that would then run to the computer. this is also beneficial considering i launch my car off the handbrake because just as i launch i am also sitting on the friction point.
the other option is a simple stand alone button :P
I dont have my microtech book here, I'm assuming the computer requires a 12V signal IN for the auxiliary? or does it have a signal out working in a loop kind of setup?
any advice on the wiring would be awesome
thanks, Jack

So,
i did the research and also spoke to mick at ovaboost, turns out the lt 16s requires a positive 12v signal into the chosen auxiliary to initate the two step tune. basically if 12v gets to that pin the computer will be running the 2step tune.
so for anyone in the future seeking the answer, this is it, hope it helps.
i need some advice on the handbrake. if anyone has any pics of the handbrake assembly or can tell me how the electrics work would be much appreciated (so i know what to expect before i pull it off.
is it a ground or is it a positive signal sent to the dash? is there an easy point anywhere in the car where i could "T" off a wire where 12v would be being sent to the dash to initiate the handbrake light?

i'd be surprised if there isn't a relay under the bonnet
if not you can hook up a relay via the hand brake switch and use the to energise the relay and pop in 12v to the microtech

thats exactly what i was thinking. thanks mate.
is there a 12v signal sent from the handbrake switch when the handbrake is engaged? or a 12v circuit made or broken when the handbrake is engaged?
would be easy to either take +12v if so, or if its the opposite use a relay if the circuit brakes when the handbrake is on.
Ive read through some of the turbo timer threads, and it seems that some people were talking about taking 12v from the handbrake switch. this would be absolutely perfect! i have an LED probe so i can hopefully find the right wire, if someone has a colour and easiest access point it would be even better!

your best bet is to remove the centre console and there would have to be a switch or a contactor of somesort used to display the dash light
use that switch and just run your relay off it, you won't need to probe anything, get a standard 4 pin relay
shouldn't take longer than 1hr to do start to finish the biggest pain would be finding your 12v source for the microtech to use

cigarette lighter will do lol

well even easier again check what type of input the microtech accepts, you may be able to just run a single wire from the hand brake switch directly to the microtech the switch for the hand brake should be low current (obviously confirm that first with a multimeter)

yeah that was what i was getting at at the start lol.
thats why im seeking the colour of the wire, tbh i will probably put a small fuse in there too. easy done. from what i can tell there is definately a 12v signal sent from the handbrake switch out to the dash, so i'll just find it and use that, easy done.

Just use a momentary button in ur console, works fine in mine, could prob post a pic if u wanted, u could do Wat u want with handbrake but I think it's a waste and u need somethin u can release fast or it'll drop off two step

11-01-12, 07:38 GMT+10#10 That won't work. Clutch switch is the only way to do it properly
How could you time the clutch realize and lift the limiter together otherwise

yeh i was thinking that, imagine if you didn't lower the hand brake properly, took off full noise on a twostep

wouldnt really do any damage, considering the rev limit will be around 4000 on the 2 step and im not planning on having heaps of antilag or anything tuned it.
its pretty hard to get the handbrake wrong anyway.

how do you have the clutch switch set, is it when your foot is on the floor? because i ride just off and on then on friction point to launch it at the drags, so i have to have the handbrake up anyway.

13-01-12, 01:21 GMT+10#13 so anyway, the handbrake switch is a ground. 12v runs through a yellow wire that runs up the passenger side of the trans tunnel. i cut that wire and put a relay in, then drew power from my cigarette lighter. hopefully thats all i need
