Hi guys after some solutions to my problem.
Have installed a long range tank from a vn into my vl, used a vlt intank pump/sender assembly.
Problem is its not picking up the last 20 or so litres, pump was put side by side with the vn one the tank came with and they are identical.
Any thoughts?
Cheers, Donny.
and yes i searched but have not found any answers.

Is it not sitting on the bottom of the tank?
Like you might have done up all the little bolts on the cork gasket 1 out or something n the sender unit is on a slight angle ?

Maybe the BT1 style pump bracket is different?

Not the bolts themselves... the pump's orientation

its in straight, the top edge is squared off, same way the other one came out

Perhaps the VN sender that came with the tank wasnt a long range sender?
Somebody could have swaped it out for a normal one before you got it...

/\ in that case does any one know if there is a difference between the two tank senders?

03-01-12, 05:41 GMT+10#10 No difference between senders. Sounds like the swirl pot isn't filling up. There is a rubber hose inside the tank that runs from the swirl pot to a fitting which the fuel rail return line connects to, it seems like this hose has deteriorated and come adrift.

03-01-12, 13:53 GMT+10#12 got exactly the same problem in my VN with a long range tank after replacing the fuel pump grrrr......... I just make sure it doesn't get low on fuel....If you get a definite fix me to would be interested...
All the research I have done indicates someting to do with the hose that fills the swirl pot or similar

07-01-12, 15:45 GMT+10#13 Ok thanks guys, im pretty sure its the swirl pot not being filled by the return hose.
I had a good look over the std. tank i removed and you can see through the sender hole that there is no return line left. But it looks impossibe to replace as its connected by hose clamps either end and i doubt anyone could even get their hand inside the tank.
Does anyone know if there are any sender units that have the return built into them?

There are a few sender units available but you would have to ask for which one will suit the VL.
VDO were the ones who sourced the stock sender unit so hit up their website.

09-01-12, 17:04 GMT+10#15 how do you reinstall the rubber hose on the swirl pot? I noticed mine had a fitting on the swirl pot but couldnt imagine how I would get it sorted

Seems like they connect everything together before they join the 2 halves of the tank together in the factory?
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

10-01-12, 13:29 GMT+10#18 hey guys just fixed mine up. used a big hole saw and cut a hole in top of the tank on the flat bit where there are no pipes underneath. fixed the hose and had a mate from work solder it up with a large soldering iron.

haha, lived up to ur username. i love it. wouldnt have been better off welding it the hole up with another plate and then brazing it with brass and then hit it with underbody sealer, never to be seen.. obciously the body sealer once its noted that it doesnt leak..

03-02-12, 07:43 GMT+10#20 yeah PWR747 the vp and vr and vs all had the return line with the sender, but the intank pump was high pressure meaning there was no external pump, you might have to swap intank pumps over
